A BALANCED LIFE

AS everyone knows, one of the significant principles of health is to have a balanced life. One should eat a balanced diet, not omitting any kinds of nutrition, nor to eat certain foods solely. Exercise and rest time should also be balanced; it's equally harmful to get too much sleep or to work out excessively.

In a word, anything that is good will turn to bad if you have it too much. Thus, we need to control the quantity as well as the quality of our practices.

This same principle can be applied to our spiritual lives. Some people love to attend meetings. They run to this special conference in one city and to that summer conference in another, not to mention to all the local regular meetings. These people, however, never have personal devotions.

Even some ministers follow this practice.

Once they are up in the morning. They check their daily schedules and get busy working on them. They don't have a quiet time with the Lord. Eventually they may become weak inside and can collapse before temptations.

On the contrary, some people only pray and read the Bible at home by themselves. They never join church activities because they think these are carnal and non spiritual. It's like having an autistic child at home; truly a headache to the parents.

Even Bible reading and praying needs to be controlled. Remember when the three disciples were with Jesus on the transfiguring mountain? While they were still enjoying "it's good to be here", Jesus lead them in to the "faithless and perverse generation" fighting with the devil. Truly, faith and work; love and wisdom; and personal devotion and evangelical mission should be balanced.

Another area to consider in achieving balance in the mind; that is, human beings are composed of body, mind and soul. We tend to care about our body's health and soul's communication with God, yet we neglect our mind's activities.

Actually, the easiest way to sin is in our minds and Satan wants to occupy our minds the most in order to temp us. If we don't guard our mind, and just let our thoughts and emotions run free and open to all theories and directions, we will surely fall in to sin that eventually affects our bodies and souls.

On the other hand, some of us don't think at all. WE don't even use common sense. We said that we had hand over everything in our lives to God and leave all to Him. We don't even bother to ask God for wisdom to deal with our situation or use our brain to analyze them. No wonder we are criticized as strange and weird people.

God, however, never wants us to be stupid or lazy. He gave us a mind as well as a body and a soul to take care of. The free will He has given us is the privilege of choice and the decision made is the result of our thinking.

Be aware, my friend! If you don't tend and keep this garden, the enemy will occupy it, affecting all your parts such that they won't be well enough to form a balanced life.
