In Genesis 24, Abraham\u2019s servant Eliezer, is sent to find a wife for his young master. The story of Isaac and Rebecca is one of the most beautiful love stories in the Hebrew Bible. But before it became a story of love, it was a story of faith. In order to really understand this story, you need to see the fascinating details that only Hebrew reveals\u2026<\/p>\n

Praying for Guidance<\/strong><\/p>\n

It took a good deal of faith from Abraham\u2019s servant, Eliezer, to trust that the Lord would send him the right girl. When he arrives and stands by the well, he prays for success (\u201cgood speed\u201d or \u201cgood fortune\u201d, depending on the translation). Translated literally, he asks God to \u201cmake this day happen\u201d.\u00a0It\u2019s important to note that this is the very first prayer for divine guidance that is recorded in the Bible.<\/strong><\/p>\n

\nHe was speechless<\/strong><\/p>\n

We all know that Eliezer\u2019s prayer was answered immediately and we also know that he was overwhelmed by this immediate answer. This is often translated as \u201cremained silent\u201d, but it might also mean: \u201cspeechless\u201d. I think that was exactly what happened to the servant:\u00a0he was speechless when he saw God\u2019s handwriting in this story and realized that God Himself had chosen the girl for Isaac.\u00a0<\/strong>

It\u2019s even more amazing to\u00a0see this invisible reality of God\u2019s guidance becoming visible and obvious even to those who don\u2019t believe in God.<\/strong>\u00a0Rebecca\u2019s father and brother, after they hear the servant\u2019s testimony, say these surprising words,\u00a0\u201cMi-Adonai Yatza Ha-Davar\u201d<\/em>\u00a0\u2013 \u201cthis thing came from\u00a0Yod-Hey-Vav-Hey!<\/strong>\u201d It is rare in the Bible for non-believers to use this unique, personal name for God!<\/p>\n

Genesis 24:50-51<\/strong><\/p>\n

50\u00a0<\/sup>Laban and Bethuel\u00a0answered, \u201cThis is from the\u00a0Lord<\/span><\/strong>;\u00a0we can say nothing to you one way or the other.<\/span>\u00a051\u00a0<\/sup>Here is Rebekah; take her and go, and let her become the wife of your master\u2019s son, as the\u00a0Lord<\/span>\u00a0has directed.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n
