But what is the deeper meaning of God&#8217;s directions to Abram, when we read them in Hebrew?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21837 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/directions-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/directions-2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/directions-2-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>God&#8217;s promise to Abraham<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In Genesis 13, God reaffirms the promise of the land to Abram and his offspring:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<strong><em>Look from the place where you are, northward and southward and eastward and westward;<\/em><em>\u202f<\/em><\/strong><em><strong>for all the land that you see I will give to you and to your offspring forever<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/em>\u00a0(Gen.13:14-15).<\/p>\n<p>The four Hebrew words used for the directions give us a fascinating insight.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21838 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/directions-3-e1653543592315.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"771\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The real Biblical directions<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Biblical Hebrew has an intense physicality, and these words describe more than just directions:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Negba<\/strong>: Means to the south or to the\u00a0<em>Negev<\/em>, the\u00a0<strong>desert region of southern Israel<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21839 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/negba.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"255\" height=\"168\" \/><\/li>\n<li><\/li>\n<li><strong>Yama:<\/strong>\u00a0Means to the west. Sea is\u00a0<em>yam<\/em>\u00a0in Hebrew, so it literally\u00a0<strong>means to the sea, which lies to the west<\/strong>\u00a0of Israel.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21840 size-medium\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Yama-300x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"150\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Yama-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Yama.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><\/li>\n<li><strong>Kedma:\u00a0<\/strong>Means to the east. In Gen 2:8, it is stated that the garden of Eden was placed in &#8220;mi<strong><em>kedem&#8221;<\/em><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21841 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Kedma2-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Kedma2-300x225.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Kedma2-1030x773.jpg 1030w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Kedma2-768x576.jpg 768w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Kedma2-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Kedma2-2048x1536.jpg 2048w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Kedma2-1500x1125.jpg 1500w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/05\/Kedma2-705x529.jpg 705w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Tzfona:\u00a0<\/strong>Means to the north.
