But before long, David had become a military hero, Saul grew wildly jealous, and David found himself running for his life. David narrowly escaped Saul\u2019s attempts to kill him at a place called the \u201cRock of Escape\u201d (1 Samuel 23:28). As Saul\u2019s army closes in on David by approaching from the back of the mountain, a miracle happens. At the last minute, just before he captures David, Saul is called back home to fight the Philistines. The story ends by telling us that the name of this\u00a0<strong>famous mountain where David was delivered from death is the \u201cRock of Escape.\u201d\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23047 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/escape-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/escape-3.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/escape-3-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>The Hebrew Meaning of the Rock<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the original Hebrew this is\u00a0<strong><em>Sela HaMa<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>\u1e25<\/em><\/strong><strong><em>lekot<\/em><\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u05e1\u05b6\u05dc\u05b7\u05e2<\/strong> <strong>\u05d4\u05b7\u05de\u05bc\u05b7\u05d7\u05b0\u05dc\u05b0\u05e7\u05d5\u05b9\u05ea<\/strong><strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0a name which is far more interesting than the translation indicates. The word\u00a0<em>Ma<\/em><em>\u1e25<\/em><em>lekot<\/em>\u00a0comes from the root\u00a0<strong>\u1e24<\/strong><strong>LK <\/strong><strong>\u05d7\u05dc\u05e7<\/strong>\u00a0which means\u00a0<strong>\u201cto divide\u201d.<\/strong>\u00a0But the same root also means\u00a0<strong>\u201cslippery.\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0Which meaning is correct? In fact, both are. This mountain was the\u00a0<em>dividing<\/em>\u00a0border separating two armies.
