He begins His first parable with, \u201cWhat man of you\u2026?\u201d, and the second one with, \u201cWhat woman\u2026?\u201d However, his audience contained all men and no women. Why did Jesus make this comparison to an all-male audience?<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-25577 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/woman-2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/woman-2.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/woman-2-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s All in the\u00a0Balance<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Remarkably, male and the female images are not only both present, but also well balanced throughout all of Jesus\u2019 teachings. In modern society, the status of a woman is entirely different to what it was in 1st century Jewish culture, therefore we aren\u2019t surprised by this balance. However,\u00a0<strong>it was undoubtedly a great shock to Jesus\u2019 listeners, when he used examples from the world of men and from the world of women.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-25578 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/woman-3.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/woman-3.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/03\/woman-3-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p><strong>Two Different Worlds\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the Sermon on the Mount, when\u00a0<strong>Jesus says, \u201c<em>You are the light of the world<\/em>\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>he illustrates this statement with two images. The first one is taken from the world of men \u2014 men built cities.
