God keeps bringing out more food, and we keep loosening up our belt. A promotion. A privilege. A friendship. A gift.\u00a0A lifetime of grace. An eternity of joy. The Psalmist said, \u201cYou serve me a six-course dinner right in front of my enemies. You revive my drooping head; my cup fills with blessing\u201d (Psalm 23:5 MSG).<\/p>\n<p>And then there are those days when, well, we have to eat our broccoli. Our daily bread could be tears or sorrow or discipline.\u00a0Our portion may include adversity as well as opportunity.<\/p>\n<p>So the next time your plate has more broccoli than apple pie, just remember who prepared the meal.\u00a0Even Jesus was given a portion he found hard to swallow. But with God\u2019s help, he did. And with God\u2019s help, you can too.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-28892 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/bread-2a-300x217.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"217\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/bread-2a-300x217.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/bread-2a.jpg 533w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/p>\n<h4 style=\"text-align: center;\"><em>Hard to Swallow<\/em><\/h4>\n<p>Every day God prepares for us a plate of experiences. Some days are \u201cthree cookie days.\u201d Many are not. Sometimes our plate has nothing but vegetables, twenty-four hours of celery, carrots, and squash. Apparently God knows we need some strength, and though the portion may be hard to swallow, isn\u2019t it for our own good? All are important, and all come from God. Romans 8:28 says, \u201c<strong>We know that in everything God works for the good of those who love Him.<\/strong>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>So the next time your plate has a portion you find hard to swallow, talk to God about it. Jesus did. In the garden of Gethsemane his Father handed him a cup of suffering so sour, so vile, that Jesus handed it back to heaven.\u00a0\u201c<strong>My Father,<\/strong>\u201d he prayed, \u201c<strong>if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me.
