Now Simon&#8217;s mother-in-law was suffering from a high fever, and they asked Jesus to help her.<br \/>\n<sup>39\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So he bent over her and rebuked the fever, and it left her. She got up at once and began to wait on them.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 38-39:\u00a0 Jesus visits the home of Simon where he finds Simon\u2019s mother-in-law sick with a high fever.\u00a0 Simon\u2019s family asks Jesus to help her, so Jesus bends over, rebukes the fever, and the fever goes away.\u00a0 Simon\u2019s mother-in-law recovers so much that she \u201cgot up at once\u201d (v39) and begins serving the guests in the home (v39).<br \/>\nWhat can we learn from this?<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Jesus has authority to rebuke sickness and heal diseases.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li value=\"2\">In this case what mobilized Jesus to exercise his authority to heal was that Simon\u2019s family \u201casked Jesus to help her\u201d (v38).\u00a0 Jesus is able to heal, but do we ask Him to heal?\u00a0 James 4:2 says, \u201c\u2026You do not have because you do not ask God.\u201d\u00a0 Here at THRIVE we have witnessed people being healed of sicknesses and injuries not because we ourselves have the power to heal but because God is our healer and we are not afraid to ask Him.\u00a0 So when you\u2019re facing a problem that you do not have the power to solve, ask God.\u00a0 See every big problem you go through as an opportunity to ask God and for God to reveal His power.\u00a0 And if you encounter a situation where you ask and God doesn\u2019t heal the way you hoped, don\u2019t let that discourage you.\u00a0 Just believe that God has a greater plan He is working out in that situation.\u00a0 As children of God, let\u2019s not be afraid to ask our Father with faith.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><em><strong>Luke 4:40-41 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>40\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When the sun was setting, the people brought to Jesus all who had various kinds of sickness, and laying his hands on each one, he healed them.<br \/>\n<sup>41\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Moreover, demons came out of many people, shouting, &#8220;You are the Son of God!&#8221; But he rebuked them and would not allow them to speak, because they knew he was the Christ.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 40-41:\u00a0 Here Jesus continues to use his authority to heal people of various sicknesses and to cast out demons.\u00a0 Why is it that Jesus would not allow the demons to speak about him being the Son of God (v41)?\u00a0 I appreciate Pastor Jon Courson\u2019s response to this question:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOne of the most effective tactics of the Enemy is to get people who don&#8217;t know the Lord or care about the Lord to be in positions where they&#8217;re talking about things of the Lord, even though their lives are a mess and their motives are amiss. In this way, the church, the body of Christ is discredited.\u201d<br \/>\n<em>(Bibliographical note: Courson, Jon. WORDsearch CROSS e-book.)<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Jesus wants healthy and restored children of God to be the ones acknowledging Him before people who don\u2019t yet believe.\u00a0 He doesn\u2019t want the ones talking about Him to be demons whose words might otherwise confuse or scare away people who don\u2019t believe.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Luke 4:42a (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>42\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0At daybreak Jesus went out to a solitary place\u2026\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 42a:\u00a0 Why did Jesus go to a solitary place (v42)?\u00a0 It\u2019s because Jesus was protecting his time with God (see Luke 5:16).\u00a0\u00a0<strong>As busy as Jesus was, Jesus knew that his rest and his power source came from his time with God.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Similarly,<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>your rest and your power source come from your time with God.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>So never say, \u201cI\u2019m too busy to pray and spend time with God.\u201d\u00a0 You\u2019re not too busy to pray.\u00a0 You\u2019re too busy NOT to pray and spend time with God!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Luke 4:42b-44 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>42\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0\u2026The people were looking for him and when they came to where he was, they tried to keep him from leaving them.<br \/>\n<sup>43\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But he said, &#8220;I must preach the good news of the kingdom of God to the other towns also, because that is why I was sent.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>44\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And he kept on preaching in the synagogues of Judea.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 42b-44:\u00a0 Jesus\u2019 popularity in Capernaum was growing rapidly.\u00a0 As much as the people of Capernaum tried to get Jesus to stay, Jesus would not be distracted from his mission to preach the good news all over Judea, \u201cbecause that is why I was sent\u201d (v43).<br \/>\nWhat can we learn from this?\u00a0 Jesus was not driven by people-pleasing.\u00a0 He did not live for the praise of people.\u00a0 Rather, Jesus was focused on and driven by his God-given mission.\u00a0 He wanted his Heavenly Father\u2019s \u201cwell done\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Like Jesus may we not be people-pleasers, enslaved to the opinions of others as if our worth and happiness depends on what other people think of us.\u00a0 Instead may we seek to please our Heavenly Father and be focused on serving the mission He has given you and me.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Lord Jesus, I praise You for being the One who has all authority over sickness and evil spirits.\u00a0 Like You, I pray that I would have the wisdom to protect my time with You, for that is where my rest and my power source is.\u00a0 Please also give me strength to focus on pleasing You and doing what You have called me to do, rather than living for the praises and attention of people.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Luke 4:38-44.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p>Luke 4:38-39 (NIV)\u00a0<br \/>\n38\u00a0\u00a0Jesus left the synagogue and went to the home of Simon.
