Today\u2019s passage is Luke 24:44-53. Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n

Luke 24:44-48 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong>
\n44 \u00a0He said to them, “This is what I told you while I was still with you: Everything must be fulfilled that is written about me in the Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms.”
\n45 \u00a0Then he opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures.
\n46 \u00a0He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day,
\n47 \u00a0and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.
\n48 \u00a0You are witnesses of these things.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 44-48: Here Jesus once again affirms to his disciples that the Old Testament (\u201cthe Law of Moses, the Prophets and the Psalms\u201d) speak about him. \u00a0In verses 46-47 Jesus is providing his summary of the message of the Old Testament, that \u201cthe Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem\u201d. The disciples not only got to read about Jesus in their Old Testament scriptures. Even more they got to see Jesus and what is written about him actually unfold in real life \u2013 \u201cYou are witnesses of these things\u201d (v48).<\/p>\n

Luke 24:49 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong>
\n49 \u00a0I am going to send you what my Father has\u00a0<\/em>promised;<\/em>\u00a0but stay in the city until you have been clothed with power from on high.”<\/em><\/p>\n

On verse 49: Jesus did not want to send his disciples as witnesses without power. So he tells his disciples to wait in Jerusalem until they have been clothed with power from on high. Here Jesus is referring to the Holy Spirit, who would come upon the disciples with power very soon (as described in Acts 2).<\/p>\n

What can we learn from this? We can\u2019t be effective witnesses for God without God\u2019s power. That is why Jesus wants his witnesses to be empowered by the Holy Spirit. So every day, welcome the Holy Spirit into your life, ask the Holy Spirit to fill you, and spend quality time with Him. That is the key to a powerful life in Christ.<\/p>\n

Luke 24:50-51 (NIV)<\/strong>
\n50 \u00a0When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them.
\n51 \u00a0While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 50-51: It touches me that Jesus left this earth blessing the people around him.\u00a0I pray that on the day that God would have me leave this earth, I would do so blessing the people around me as well. May the same be for you too.<\/p>\n

Luke 24:52-53 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong>
\n52 \u00a0Then they worshiped him and returned to Jerusalem with great joy.
\n53 \u00a0And they stayed continually at the temple, praising God.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 52-53: After seeing all that Jesus had said and done and seeing Jesus risen from the grave, the disciples worship Jesus and spend the next season in the temple courts of Jerusalem, praising God.<\/p>\n

What can we learn from this?\u00a0When you\u2019ve experienced Jesus powerfully, the best thing you can do with your life is to spend it worshiping Jesus with God\u2019s people. That\u2019s what we get to do now, and that\u2019s what we\u2019ll get to do forever in heaven.<\/p>\n

That brings our \u201cLuke at Jesus\u201d to a close. Praise God for an awesome time studying the Gospel of Luke together.\u00a0I hope you\u2019ve enjoyed and benefitted from it as much as I have, both at our Sunday services as well as every day together through these GAME sharings. Of course, the sequel to the Gospel of Luke is the book of Acts, so the story does not end here. We\u2019ll take up Acts together down the road.\u00a0In the meantime, let\u2019s thank God for every precious lesson we got to learn from the Gospel of Luke together.
