Today\u2019s passage is Joshua 14:10-15.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n

Joshua 14:10-15 (ESV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>
\n10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And now, behold, the\u00a0LORD\u00a0has kept me alive, just as he said, these forty-five years since the time that the\u00a0LORD\u00a0spoke this word to Moses, while Israel walked in the wilderness. And now, behold, I am this day eighty-five years old.
\n11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I am still as strong today as I was in the day that Moses sent me; my strength now is as my strength was then, for war and for going and coming.
\n12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So now give me this hill country of which the\u00a0LORD\u00a0spoke on that day, for you heard on that day how the Anakim were there, with great fortified cities. It may be that the\u00a0LORDwill be with me, and I shall drive them out just as the\u00a0LORD\u00a0said.\u201d
\n13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then Joshua blessed him, and he gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh for an inheritance.
\n14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Therefore Hebron became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the\u00a0LORD, the God of Israel.
\n15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Now the name of Hebron formerly was Kiriath-arba. (Arba was the greatest man among the Anakim.) And the land had rest from war.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 10-15:\u00a0\u00a0After reminding Joshua of how he and Joshua were the only spies who explored the promised land 45 years before and who came back with an encouraging report (v6-8), and after reminding Joshua of the promise Moses spoke to Caleb that Caleb would have land of his own in the promised land (v9), Caleb continues his message to Joshua.\u00a0\u00a0Caleb testifies to how God has kept him alive and at 85 years Caleb is as strong as he was when he and Joshua first explored the land (v10-11).\u00a0\u00a0Caleb demands that he be allotted the land that had been promised him (v12) and says that he is committed to driving out the giant Anakim who live there.\u00a0\u00a0So Joshua allots a highly desirable piece of the promised land to Caleb.\u00a0\u00a0In verses 14-15 we learn that this land used to be called Kiriath Arba, named after a famous Anakite called Arba.\u00a0\u00a0However, after Caleb took the land over, it became known as Hebron, meaning \u201cleague\u201d or \u201cassociation\u201d.<\/p>\n

What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0Verse 14 tells us that the land of Hebron was given to Caleb and belonged to Caleb indefinitely \u201cbecause he followed the Lord, the God of Israel, wholeheartedly.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Notice that as part of following the Lord wholeheartedly, Caleb waited 45 years before he was allotted his land, and he also had to fight giants in order to occupy the land.\u00a0\u00a0This signals to me that to follow the Lord wholeheartedly will involve two big decisions on our part: the decision to wait in faith and the decision to fight in faith.\u00a0\u00a0In other words,\u00a0as part of following the Lord, there will be times when what you need to do is to wait and trust God that in His time He will make things happen.\u00a0\u00a0But there will also be times, as part of following the Lord, when what you need to do is to take action and fight for what God has already given you.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Waiting for God to give and fighting for what God has already given are two important parts of following the Lord wholeheartedly and taking possession of the destiny God has for you.\u00a0\u00a0So<\/strong>\u00a0in your quest to follow the Lord, may you have wisdom from heaven to know when it is time to wait and when it is time to fight, for you will need to do both, just at different times.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Father God, please give me wisdom to know when it is time to wait on You and when it is time to take action and fight.\u00a0\u00a0Like Caleb, may I follow You wholeheartedly, waiting when I\u2019m supposed to wait and fighting when I\u2019m supposed to fight, so that I can occupy the land You have allotted to me.\u00a0\u00a0In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
