{"id":13495,"date":"2021-01-04T20:00:17","date_gmt":"2021-01-05T03:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/joshua_15_45-63-copy\/"},"modified":"2021-01-03T16:51:23","modified_gmt":"2021-01-03T23:51:23","slug":"joshua_16_1-10","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/joshua_16_1-10\/","title":{"rendered":"Blessings for Generations to Come"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Joshua 16:1-10\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Joshua+16%3A1-10&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13497 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/21-0105.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/21-0105.png 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/21-0105-300x150.png 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Joshua 16:1-10.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Joshua 16:1-4 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The allotment for Joseph began at the Jordan of Jericho, east of the waters of Jericho, and went up from there through the desert into the hill country of Bethel.<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0It went on from Bethel (that is, Luz), crossed over to the territory of the Arkites in Ataroth,<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0descended westward to the territory of the Japhletites as far as the region of Lower Beth Horon and on to Gezer, ending at the sea.<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So Manasseh and Ephraim, the descendants of Joseph, received their inheritance.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-4:\u00a0\u00a0Verses 1-4 describe the territory allotted to the tribe of Joseph, which was located in the centre of Canaan.\u00a0\u00a0According to scholars, the land allotted to Joseph was arguably the most fertile and the most beautiful part of the promised land.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In the verses that follow (verses 4-10 as well as all of Joshua 17) we read of how this land was divided between Manasseh and Ephraim, Joseph\u2019s two sons whose descendants are treated as two separate tribes of Israel named after Manasseh and Ephraim.<\/p>\n<p>Why are Joseph\u2019s sons Manasseh and Ephraim treated as two separates tribes instead of treating Joseph as just one tribe of Israel?\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s because in Genesis 48:5, Joseph\u2019s father Jacob (later known as Israel) proclaims an unprecedent blessing over Joseph and his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim.\u00a0\u00a0In Genesis, Joseph had used his power as a powerful government official in Egypt to save his family during a time of famine.\u00a0\u00a0Were it not for Joseph, Israel\u2019s entire family line could have been completely wiped out by famine.\u00a0\u00a0To acknowledge what Joseph did to save their family, Israel proclaims that Joseph\u2019s two sons Manasseh and Ephraim would have the same status in the family as their uncles.\u00a0\u00a0That is why in Genesis 48:5, Jacob (Israel) says:<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNow then, your two sons born to you in Egypt before I came to you here will be reckoned as mine;\u00a0<em>Ephraim and Manasseh will be mine, just as Reuben and Simeon are mine.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In other words, Manasseh and Ephraim, who were grandsons of Israel, would be treated for inheritance purposes as sons of Israel just like Israel\u2019s other sons.\u00a0\u00a0This meant that instead of Joseph being one tribe of Israel, Manasseh and Ephraim would each be considered a tribe in Israel and would constitute two tribes in Israel.\u00a0\u00a0Joseph\u2019s descendants effectively received a doubled portion compared to every other tribe of Israel.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>When we are faithful with the calling on our lives as Joseph was, it results in tremendous blessing for those who come after you.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0In Joseph\u2019s case, it meant that his descendants would receive a double portion of the most beautiful land the promised land had to offer.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Joshua 16:5-10 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0This was the territory of Ephraim, clan by clan: The boundary of their inheritance went from Ataroth Addar in the east to Upper Beth Horon<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and continued to the sea. From Micmethath on the north it curved eastward to Taanath Shiloh, passing by it to Janoah on the east.<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then it went down from Janoah to Ataroth and Naarah, touched Jericho and came out at the Jordan.<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0From Tappuah the border went west to the Kanah Ravine and ended at the sea.
