{"id":13791,"date":"2021-01-20T21:00:32","date_gmt":"2021-01-21T04:00:32","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/joshua_21_23-33-copy\/"},"modified":"2021-01-17T16:26:37","modified_gmt":"2021-01-17T23:26:37","slug":"joshua_21_34-45","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/joshua_21_34-45\/","title":{"rendered":"Rest on Every Side"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Joshua 21:34-45 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Joshua+21%3A34-45&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-13793 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/21-0121.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/21-0121.jpeg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/01\/21-0121-300x150.jpeg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Joshua 21:34-45.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Joshua 21:34-42 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>34\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The Merarite clans (the rest of the Levites) were given: from the tribe of Zebulun, Jokneam, Kartah,<br \/>\n<sup>35\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Dimnah and Nahalal, together with their pasturelands&#8211;four towns;<br \/>\n<sup>36\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0from the tribe of Reuben, Bezer, Jahaz,<br \/>\n<sup>37\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Kedemoth and Mephaath, together with their pasturelands&#8211;four towns;<br \/>\n<sup>38\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0from the tribe of Gad, Ramoth in Gilead (a city of refuge for one accused of murder), Mahanaim,<br \/>\n<sup>39\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Heshbon and Jazer, together with their pasturelands&#8211;four towns in all.<br \/>\n<sup>40\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0All the towns allotted to the Merarite clans, who were the rest of the Levites, were twelve.<br \/>\n<sup>41\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The towns of the Levites in the territory held by the Israelites were forty-eight in all, together with their pasturelands.<\/em><br \/>\n<sup><em>42\u00a0<\/em><\/sup><em>\u00a0Each of these towns had pasturelands surrounding it; this was true for all these towns.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 34-42:\u00a0\u00a0These verses conclude the list of towns that were given to the tribe of Levi, ending with the Merarite clans. \u201cMerari\u201d literally means \u201cbitter\u201d.\u00a0The fact that these Levites could receive these towns as well as pasturelands, and this despite the sin that their forefather had committed in Genesis 34, is a pretty sweet deal made possible by God\u2019s grace.<\/p>\n<p>Notice the repeated emphasis on the word \u201cpasturelands\u201d in this chapter, especially verses 16 through 42.\u00a0\u00a0It reminds me that\u00a0<strong>God is a gracious provider and a good shepherd, who \u201cmakes me lie down in green pastures\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0(Psalm 23:2).\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Take a moment and thank God for the green pastures He has provided in your life.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Joshua 21:43 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>43\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So the\u00a0LORD\u00a0gave Israel all the land he had sworn to give their forefathers, and they took possession of it and settled there.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 43:\u00a0\u00a0Notice that God gave Israel the land He had promised, but it was up to Israel to take possession of it and settle there.\u00a0\u00a0Similarly,\u00a0<strong>God has good things in store for You, good things He has planned and promised you, but it is up to you to go take possession of it and settle there.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Joshua 21:44-45 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>44\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The\u00a0LORD\u00a0gave them rest on every side, just as he had sworn to their forefathers. Not one of their enemies withstood them; the\u00a0LORD\u00a0handed all their enemies over to them.<br \/>\n<sup>45\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Not one of all the\u00a0LORD&#8217;s good promises to the house of Israel failed; every one was fulfilled.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 44-45:\u00a0\u00a0Just as God promised, God gave the Israelites rest on every side (v44), and none of their enemies could withstand them (see Joshua 1:5).\u00a0Every one of God\u2019s promises was fulfilled.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0As Psalm 145:13 says, \u201cThe Lord is faithful to all His promises and loving toward all he has made\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0You can depend on what God says and trust in His goodness.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>God never promised that the journey you are on would be easy, but He does promise that if you trust Him, He will make your path straight (Proverbs 3:5-6), you will have everything you need (Matthew 6:33), and in all things He is working ultimately for your good (Romans 8:28).<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0As you trust in God, your life will be a story that points to God\u2019s grace and faithfulness on earth.<\/p>\n<p><em>Heavenly Father, thank You that You are faithful to every word You speak and every promise You make.
