Today\u2019s passage is John 8:12-20.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n

John 8:12-20 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>
\n12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
\n13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The Pharisees challenged him, “Here you are, appearing as your own witness; your testimony is not valid.”
\n14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid, for I know where I came from and where I am going. But you have no idea where I come from or where I am going.
\n15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You judge by human standards; I pass judgment on no one.
\n16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But if I do judge, my decisions are right, because I am not alone. I stand with the Father, who sent me.
\n17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0In your own Law it is written that the testimony of two men is valid.
\n18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I am one who testifies for myself; my other witness is the Father, who sent me.”
\n19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then they asked him, “Where is your father?” “You do not know me or my Father,” Jesus replied. “If you knew me, you would know my Father also.”
\n20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He spoke these words while teaching in the temple area near the place where the offerings were put. Yet no one seized him, because his time had not yet come.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 12-20:\u00a0\u00a0I find it powerful and interesting to think that when Jesus said these things about him being the light of the world (v12), giving people the light of life (v12), passing judgment on no one (v15), and standing with the Father (v16), Jesus said all these things \u201cin the temple area near the place where the offerings were put\u201d (v20).\u00a0\u00a0In other words,\u00a0even as people were giving their imperfect offerings for God, Jesus was right there, being given as God\u2019s perfect offering for people.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

By the way, why would Jesus say \u201cI pass judgment on no one\u201d (v15) when he is elsewhere known as the judge (see, for example, 2 Timothy 4:1, 8)?\u00a0\u00a0I believe it\u2019s because during his first arrival on earth, Jesus was coming not to judge sinners but to be judged for sinners by being killed on a cross.\u00a0\u00a0One day Jesus will return and at that second arrival Jesus will come as righteous judge and king.<\/p>\n

Thank You Jesus for being God\u2019s perfect offering for humankind.\u00a0\u00a0When our own offerings could never pay for our sin, You came as the perfect offering for our sins so that we could be forgiven, made new, and become true offerings and living sacrifices to God.\u00a0\u00a0Thank You for all that You have done for us on the cross.\u00a0\u00a0In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
