For which of these do you stone me?&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>33\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;We are not stoning you for any of these,&#8221; replied the Jews, &#8220;but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>34\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Jesus answered them, &#8220;Is it not written in your Law, &#8216;I have said you are gods&#8217;?<br \/>\n<sup>35\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0If he called them &#8216;gods,&#8217; to whom the word of God came&#8211;and the Scripture cannot be broken&#8211;<br \/>\n<sup>36\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0what about the one whom the Father set apart as his very own and sent into the world? Why then do you accuse me of blasphemy because I said, &#8216;I am God&#8217;s Son&#8217;?<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 31-36:\u00a0\u00a0When Jesus questions his Jewish opponents as to why they are trying to stone him, his opponents explain that they are stoning Jesus for blasphemy because he claims to be God.\u00a0\u00a0Jesus\u2019 response is intriguing.\u00a0\u00a0First he quotes Psalm 82:6 and shows that in certain situations the Scriptures describe people as \u201c \u2018gods\u2019\u2026sons of the Most High.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0In the case of Psalm 82:6 specifically, human judges were described as \u201cgods\u201d in that they possessed the power of life or death over others.\u00a0\u00a0Jesus reasons that, since the Scriptures, which cannot be broken, already speak about people as \u201cgods\u201d, how is it blasphemy for Jesus to say that he is God\u2019s Son?<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Here we see Jesus\u2019 view of the Old Testament and in particular the Psalms.\u00a0\u00a0He views the Psalms as Scripture and says that the \u201cScripture cannot be broken\u201d (v35); in other words, Scripture cannot be in error because it was the Word of God.\u00a0\u00a0Just because we don\u2019t like what we read in the Bible, or we don\u2019t fully understand it or we don\u2019t agree with it doesn\u2019t mean that it stops being the Word of God.\u00a0\u00a0Elsewhere Jesus would say something similar: \u201cnot the smallest letter, nor the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law\u201d (Matthew 5:18)<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>John 10:37-38 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>37\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Do not believe me unless I do what my Father does.<br \/>\n<sup>38\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But if I do it, even though you do not believe me, believe the miracles, that you may know and understand that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 37-38:\u00a0\u00a0Jesus is basically saying to his critics and doubters, \u201cIf you don\u2019t believe what I say, let my actions speak for me.\u00a0\u00a0Look at the miracles I have been performing and ask whether I am sent from God or not, whether I am closely tied to the Father or not.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, I pray that when people see what you do \u2013 your actions, your behaviour, the way you live \u2013they would have reason to believe that Christ lives in you.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>John 10:39-42 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>39\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Again they tried to seize him, but he escaped their grasp.<br \/>\n<sup>40\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then Jesus went back across the Jordan to the place where John had been baptizing in the early days. Here he stayed<br \/>\n<sup>41\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and many people came to him. They said, &#8220;Though John never performed a miraculous sign, all that John said about this man was true.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>42\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And in that place many believed in Jesus.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 39-42:\u00a0\u00a0Probably because Jesus time to die had not yet come (v39), Jesus goes back across the Jordan River to where John the Baptist had been baptizing (v40).\u00a0\u00a0As Jesus preaches and ministers there, many put their faith in him (v42).\u00a0\u00a0People who had previously heard John the Baptist talking about Jesus can now vouch for themselves that \u201call that John said about this man was true\u201d (v41).\u00a0\u00a0In other words, though John himself never performed a miraculous sign, Jesus\u2019 ministry confirmed that John was a prophet because everything John prophesied about Jesus came true.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0Like John, you might not get to see all the fruit of your efforts to talk with people about Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0But that\u2019s okay.\u00a0\u00a0Like John, keep on pointing people to Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0One day down the road, the people you spoke will realize that you were right to point them to Jesus, even if at the time when you shared it with them they didn\u2019t understand or didn\u2019t believe.<\/p>\n<p><em>Lord Jesus, may I not stop sharing You with others and trying to lead others to You, knowing that in time people will realize who You are.\u00a0\u00a0Just as Your actions and works confirmed who You are, I pray that not my actions and what I do will testify about how great You are.\u00a0\u00a0In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is John 10:31-42.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p>John 10:31-36 (NIV)\u00a0<br \/>\n31\u00a0\u00a0Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him,\u00a0<br \/>\n32\u00a0\u00a0but Jesus said to them, &#8220;I have shown you many great miracles from the Father.
