{"id":14772,"date":"2021-03-18T21:00:19","date_gmt":"2021-03-19T04:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/john_13_12-20-copy\/"},"modified":"2021-03-14T18:09:58","modified_gmt":"2021-03-15T01:09:58","slug":"john_13_21-30","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/john_13_21-30\/","title":{"rendered":"The Disciple Whom Jesus Loves"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>John 13:21-30 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=John+13%3A21-30&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-14774 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/21-0319.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/21-0319.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/21-0319-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is John 13:21-30.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>John 13:21-22 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0After he had said this, Jesus was troubled in spirit and testified, &#8220;I tell you the truth, one of you is going to betray me.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0His disciples stared at one another, at a loss to know which of them he meant.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 21-22:\u00a0\u00a0Here we once again see Jesus\u2019 humanity.\u00a0\u00a0Jesus is emotionally impacted \u2013 \u201ctroubled in spirit\u201d (v21) \u2013 by the fact that someone he has loved and invested in for 3 years is going to betray him.\u00a0\u00a0From this I learn that\u00a0<strong>God is not stoic and emotionless.\u00a0\u00a0God is full of emotion and has an emotional response to the things we do and say.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>John 13:23 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved, was reclining next to him.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 23: \u201c[T]he disciple whom Jesus loved\u201d was John\u2019s way of referring to himself, not to boast of his status as compared to other disciples, but to refer to himself, as if to say, \u201cIf I\u2019m anything at all, I\u2019m loved by Jesus\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0Rather than pointing to his accomplishments and what he had done, John pointed to the fact that Jesus loved him.<\/p>\n<p>Likewise,\u00a0<strong>regardless of your performance, you are loved by Jesus<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0As a follower of Jesus, you too are the disciple whom Jesus loves.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Jesus\u2019 love for you is so unchanging, so unfailing, so unconditional, that, like John, you can let Jesus\u2019 love define who you are and say, \u201cLike John, I too am the disciple whom Jesus loved.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>John 13:24-30 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Simon Peter motioned to this disciple and said, &#8220;Ask him which one he means.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Leaning back against Jesus, he asked him, &#8220;Lord, who is it?&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Jesus answered, &#8220;It is the one to whom I will give this piece of bread when I have dipped it in the dish.&#8221; Then, dipping the piece of bread, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, son of Simon.<br \/>\n<sup>27\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. &#8220;What you are about to do, do quickly,&#8221; Jesus told him,<br \/>\n<sup>28\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0but no one at the meal understood why Jesus said this to him.<br \/>\n<sup>29\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Since Judas had charge of the money, some thought Jesus was telling him to buy what was needed for the Feast, or to give something to the poor.<br \/>\n<sup>30\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0As soon as Judas had taken the bread, he went out. And it was night.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 24-30:\u00a0\u00a0Why didn\u2019t anyone understand that Jesus was pointing to Judas as the betrayer, especially if he says that his betrayer is \u201cthe one to whom I will give this piece of bread\u201d (v25) and then Jesus proceeds to give the piece of bread to Judas?\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Isn\u2019t it obvious that it\u2019s Judas?\u00a0\u00a0Maybe it\u2019s because in that situation, Jesus was casually passing the bread to Judas, who in turn was expected to pass it to others, and thus it wasn\u2019t clear that Judas was being singled out.\u00a0\u00a0In any event, the fact that Jesus knew what Judas would do, but the others did not, goes to show that\u00a0<strong>Jesus sees our hidden thoughts and secret motives even when they are not obvious to those around us<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0As Hebrews 4:13 says, \u201cNothing in all creation is hidden from God&#8217;s sight.
