made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”

Another lesson we can learn is that God speaks light in the darkness. When everything was dark in our lives, God spoke and there was light. In other words, God specializes in speaking light into dark places. No matter how dark, depressing or hopelessness your situation may feel, God can speak and bring light where there was no light.

Finally, “And there was evening and there was morning” (v5, 8, 13, 19) is a phrase that gets repeated in these verses. This suggests to me that God is a God of order. God is not a chaotic God but a God who incorporates rhythms, seasons, and order into the way He works. We would be wise to do the same.

Heavenly Father, thank You for the power of Your Word and the power of Your Spirit by which You created this world and by which You created me. Thank You for being the God who speaks light into the darkness. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!

Hi GAMErs,

Today we begin our look at Genesis, the first book in the Bible. Today’s passage is Genesis 1:1-19. Let’s go!

Genesis 1:1-19 (NIV)
1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters.
3 And God said, “Let there be light,”
