{"id":15294,"date":"2021-04-16T22:00:08","date_gmt":"2021-04-17T05:00:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/genesis_1_20-31-copy\/"},"modified":"2021-04-18T21:37:13","modified_gmt":"2021-04-19T04:37:13","slug":"genesis_2_1-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/genesis_2_1-14\/","title":{"rendered":"Breath of Life"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Genesis 2:1-14 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis+2%3A1-14&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15296 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/21-0417.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/21-0417.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/21-0417-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Genesis 2:1-14.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Genesis 2:1-3 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Thus the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array.<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work.<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-3:\u00a0\u00a0God did not rest on the seventh day because He was tired.\u00a0\u00a0Rather He rested as an example for all of us, that we would rest from our work once a week so that we can be renewed, restored and refreshed (Exodus 20:8-11).\u00a0\u00a0Often times it\u2019s a lack of rest, a refusal to obey God\u2019s command to rest, that causes problems for us physically, emotionally, spiritually and relationally.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Genesis 2:4-7 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created. When the\u00a0LORD\u00a0God made the earth and the heavens\u2014<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the\u00a0LORD\u00a0God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work the ground,<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground&#8211;<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0the\u00a0LORD\u00a0God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 4-7:\u00a0\u00a0For many decades some scholars have suggested that Genesis 1:1 to 2:3 and Genesis 2:4-25 contain two contradictory accounts of creation and must have been written by two different authors or groups of authors.\u00a0\u00a0I believe the better view is that in Genesis 1:1-2:3 the author gives us a big picture summary of creation, and then starting in Genesis 2:4 the author zooms into the details of the story of man\u2019s creation and subsequent fall into sin.\u00a0\u00a0If we were to compare Genesis 1-2 to a movie, the first part (Genesis 1:1-2:3) is like the general overview with opening credits and then starting in Genesis 2:4 we get to the main story involving God and mankind.\u00a0\u00a0In the end the Bible is not a story talking about God\u2019s relationship to all of creation generally, but the specific story about God\u2019s relationship with people: including God\u2019s love for humankind, humankind\u2019s fall and separation from God, and God\u2019s subsequent effort to win back and restore humankind to Himself through His Son Jesus Christ.\u00a0\u00a0The Bible is a love story between God and people, between God and us.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Genesis 2:8-14 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Now the\u00a0LORD\u00a0God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed.<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And the\u00a0LORD\u00a0God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground&#8211;trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil.<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters.<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold.<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0(The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.)<br \/>\n<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush.<br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Asshur.
