For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God.” The Bible describes Enoch as having “walked with God” (v22), suggesting that Enoch had a close relationship with God. Does that mean that Enoch never sinned at all? Probably not, since all have sinned the Bible says (Romans 3:23). This may have been a case where as an act of mercy God decided not to let Enoch experience death and took him away to heaven when it was his time. This also suggests that there is life beyond our lives on earth, which God can let us experience if He wants us to. Praise God that because God wants us to experience life with Him beyond our lives on earth, we sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross for our sins, and that through faith in Jesus Christ we have access to such life.

Genesis 5:25-32 (NIV)
25 When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he became the father of Lamech.
26 And after he became the father of Lamech, Methuselah lived 782 years and had other sons and daughters.
27 Altogether, Methuselah lived 969 years, and then he died.
28 When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son.
29 He named him Noah and said, “He will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the LORD has cursed.”
30 After Noah was born, Lamech lived 595 years and had other sons and daughters.
31 Altogether, Lamech lived 777 years, and then he died.
32 After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham and Japheth.

On verses 25-32: In verse 28 Lamech speaks prophetically about his son Noah saying that “will comfort us in the labor and painful toil of our hands caused by the ground the Lord has cursed” (v29). How would Noah bring such comfort? Perhaps this is a reference to God using Noah later to build an ark to save his family from the flood in Genesis 6. The fact that Lamech speaks these life defining words over Noah is a reminder that parents should seek the will of God for their children and declare words of encouragement and faith over their children.

Just as Enoch and Noah stand out in this genealogy of names as those who would please God and make a positive difference with their lives, may you be known as one who pleased God and who made a difference with however many years God has given you.

Heavenly Father, no matter how many years You give me on this earth, may I live them to please You. And when this life on earth is through, thank You that through faith in Jesus Christ I get to go home to You. In Jesus’ name, AMEN!

Hi GAMErs,

Today’s passage is Genesis 5:1-32. Let’s go!

Genesis 5:1-20 (NIV)
1 This is the written account of Adam’s line.
