'><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Genesis 7:1-10 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis+7%3A1-10&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-15441 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/21-0427.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/21-0427.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/04\/21-0427-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Genesis 7:1-10.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Genesis 7:1 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The\u00a0LORD\u00a0then said to Noah, &#8220;Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in this generation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 1:\u00a0\u00a0The Lord found Noah to be \u201crighteous in his generation\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0I believe that is best understood to mean that compared to others in his generation, Noah was relatively more God fearing and tried harder to please God than the people of his generation.\u00a0\u00a0That is why God decided to save Noah and his family and use them to repopulate the earth after the flood.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0While God loves everybody, to accomplish His purposes on earth God especially loves to use people who fear Him and who try hard to honour Him.<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Does this mean that somehow we can earn our way to heaven by trying to be good?\u00a0\u00a0No.\u00a0\u00a0Noah being found relatively \u201crighteous in his generation\u201d and usable for God\u2019s purposes on earth is different from Noah being found absolutely righteous according to God\u2019s standards for heaven.\u00a0\u00a0The fact is that none of us is deserving of heaven on our own merit because none of us is absolutely righteous in God\u2019s eyes.\u00a0\u00a0As Ecclesiastes 7:20 says, \u201cThere is not a righteous man on earth who does what is right and never sins\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0As Romans 3:10 says, \u201cAs it is written: \u2018There is no one righteous, not even one\u2019\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0All of us, including Noah, are in need of God\u2019s mercy, which God expressed by sending His Son Jesus to pay for our sins.\u00a0\u00a0\u201c[F]or all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, and are justified freely by his grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus.\u201d (Romans 3:23-24)<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Genesis 7:2-3 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Take with you seven of every kind of clean animal, a male and its mate, and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate,<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and also seven of every kind of bird, male and female, to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 2-3:\u00a0\u00a0Why did God tell Noah to take seven of every kind of \u201cclean animal\u201d and only two of every kind of \u201cunclean animal\u201d?\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s because Noah would later be offering some of the clean animals as a sacrifice to God.\u00a0\u00a0Here we see the first reference in the Old Testament (and the only direct reference in Genesis) to certain animals being designated as clean (i.e. appropriate to eat and to sacrifice) and unclean (i.e. inappropriate to eat or to sacrifice).\u00a0\u00a0The concept of clean and unclean animals is developed much more in the book of Leviticus and would become a major component of Jewish culture.\u00a0\u00a0In Acts 10, God would make clear to the early church that the regulations on not eating unclean animals would not apply to Christians.\u00a0\u00a0More importantly, the need to sacrifice animals to atone for sin was no longer necessary after Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay for our sins (see John 1:29; John 19:30).<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Genesis 7:4 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the face of the earth every living creature I have made.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 4:\u00a0\u00a0For some reason, forty tends to be a significant number in the Bible.\u00a0\u00a0Moses stayed on the mountain with God for forty days and forty nights (Exodus 24:18).\u00a0\u00a0Moses\u2019 spies explored the promised land for forty days (Numbers 13:25).\u00a0\u00a0The Israelites wandered in the desert for forty years (Numbers 14:33-34).\u00a0\u00a0Goliath challenged the frightened Israelites for forty days (1 Samuel 17:16).\u00a0\u00a0David reigned as king for forty years (2 Samuel 5:4; 1 Kings 2:11), Solomon as well (1 Kings 11:42). Elijah traveled forty days and forty nights until he reached Mount Horeb to hear God\u2019s voice (1 Kings 19:8).\u00a0\u00a0Jesus fasted forty days while being tempted by the devil (Matthew 4:2; Luke 4:2).<\/p>\n<p>One could say that periods of forty in the Bible tended to be times that God would use to prepare people for something new and greater. Verse 4 is the first direct reference to forty in the Bible.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Genesis 7:5 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And Noah did all that the\u00a0LORD\u00a0commanded him.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 5: Once again we see Noah\u2019s obedience to the Lord, how \u201cNoah did\u00a0<em>all\u00a0<\/em>that the Lord commanded him\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0This kind of obedience requires persistence, perseverance, passion and an attention to detail.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Genesis 7:6-10 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Noah was six hundred years old when the floodwaters came on the earth.<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons&#8217; wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood.<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Pairs of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground,<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0male and female, came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah.<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And after the seven days the floodwaters came on the earth.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 6-10:\u00a0\u00a0It wasn\u2019t Noah who saved himself and his family.\u00a0\u00a0It was God who saved Noah and his family.\u00a0\u00a0Noah just did what God told him to do to be saved.\u00a0\u00a0Likewise, we have no ability of saving ourselves from God\u2019s wrath.\u00a0\u00a0All we can do is do what God tells us to do to be saved.\u00a0\u00a0What does God tell us to do?<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Acts 16:31 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>31\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They replied, &#8220;Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved&#8211;you and your household.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Mark 16:16 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Romans 10:9 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0That if you confess with your mouth, &#8220;Jesus is Lord,&#8221;
