Then the\u00a0LORD\u00a0shut him in.<br \/>\n<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For forty days the flood kept coming on the earth, and as the waters increased they lifted the ark high above the earth.<br \/>\n<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The waters rose and increased greatly on the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water.<br \/>\n<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They rose greatly on the earth, and all the high mountains under the entire heavens were covered.<br \/>\n<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The waters rose and covered the mountains to a depth of more than twenty feet.<br \/>\n<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Every living thing that moved on the earth perished&#8211;birds, livestock, wild animals, all the creatures that swarm over the earth, and all mankind.<br \/>\n<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died.<br \/>\n<sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Every living thing on the face of the earth was wiped out; men and animals and the creatures that move along the ground and the birds of the air were wiped from the earth. Only Noah was left, and those with him in the ark.<br \/>\n<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The waters flooded the earth for a hundred and fifty days.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 11-24:\u00a0\u00a0Here just as the Lord promised, the flood comes, destroying human life and land animal life except for Moses, his family and the animals in the ark.<\/p>\n<p>From this I learn and am reminded of the following:<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0As incredible as this event sounds, Jesus speaks on a number of occasions about the flood and gives no impression that it was anything but a real and historical event.\u00a0\u00a0Jesus compares what happened at the flood to what will happen at his second coming.\u00a0\u00a0For example, see Matthew 24:37-39 where Jesus says:<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Matthew 24:37-39 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>37\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.<br \/>\n<sup>38\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark;<br \/>\n<sup>39\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0In certain places in Scripture, God describes his wrath like a great flood (for example, see Psalm 88:16-17).\u00a0 As Psalm 124 suggests, we don\u2019t stand a chance against the floodwaters of God\u2019s wrath:\u00a0\u201cIf the Lord had not been on our side\u2026the flood would have engulfed us, the torrent would have swept over us, the raging waters would have swept us away.\u201d (Psalm 124:1, 4, 5)\u00a0Our only hope in the flood of God&#8217;s holy wrath is to find refuge in whatever God makes available to us.\u00a0\u00a0For our salvation, the one thing God has made available to us as our refuge &#8212; our God-given ark, if you will &#8212; is Jesus Christ, not our own merit or performance.\u00a0\u00a0You are always best off trusting in God\u2019s Word and God\u2019s plan.\u00a0\u00a0As Jesus says when describing the person who trusts in His Word, \u201cHe is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock.
