He went over and took the ram and sacrificed it as a burnt offering instead of his son.<br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So Abraham called that place The\u00a0LORD\u00a0Will Provide. And to this day it is said, &#8220;On the mountain of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0it will be provided.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 13-14: Instead of making Abraham sacrifice his only son Isaac, God provides a substitutionary sacrifice for Isaac.\u00a0\u00a0Just as Abraham predicted in verse 8, God Himself provides a lamb for the offering.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s a ram caught by its horns in a thicket, which some scholars say was a thornbush.\u00a0\u00a0Now consider this:\u00a0a ram is a male adult lamb.\u00a0\u00a0\u201cHorns\u201d\u00a0in the Bible are often seen as a symbol for one\u2019s\u00a0destiny.<strong>\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>\u201cThorns\u201d in the Bible often represent suffering.\u00a0\u00a0Just as God provided an adult male lamb who destiny was to suffer\u00a0\u00a0on a mountain in place of Isaac, so Jesus was the male adult lamb whose destiny was to suffer and die in our place on a hill called Calvary.\u00a0\u00a0On the day Jesus was sacrificed, they even placed a\u00a0crown of<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>thorns\u00a0on Jesus\u2019 head so that, like the ram, Jesus\u2019 head is caught in thorns.\u00a0\u00a0I love how the Old Testament points us to Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0Truly the Lord is our provider, as verse 14 says, for on the mountain God provided us with His sacrificial lamb to atone for our sins.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Genesis 22:15-19 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The angel of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0called to Abraham from heaven a second time<br \/>\n<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and said, &#8220;I swear by myself, declares the\u00a0LORD, that because you have done this and have not withheld your son, your only son,<br \/>\n<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I will surely bless you and make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will take possession of the cities of their enemies,<br \/>\n<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and through your offspring all nations on earth will be blessed, because you have obeyed me.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then Abraham returned to his servants, and they set off together for Beersheba. And Abraham stayed in Beersheba.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 15-19:\u00a0\u00a0Here God declares that because Abraham obeyed God, God would bless Abraham tremendously.\u00a0\u00a0There is great blessing that comes with obeying God.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Genesis 22:20-24 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Some time later Abraham was told, &#8220;Milcah is also a mother; she has borne sons to your brother Nahor:<br \/>\n<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Uz the firstborn, Buz his brother, Kemuel (the father of Aram),<br \/>\n<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Kesed, Hazo, Pildash, Jidlaph and Bethuel.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Bethuel became the father of Rebekah. Milcah bore these eight sons to Abraham&#8217;s brother Nahor.<br \/>\n<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0His concubine, whose name was Reumah, also had sons: Tebah, Gaham, Tahash and Maacah.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 20-24:\u00a0\u00a0In Genesis 11:26, just as Abraham\u2019s story is about to be told, we read of Nahor, Abraham\u2019s brother.
