Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>1 Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs.<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 4-7:\u00a0\u00a0In\u00a01\u00a0Corinthians\u00a013:4-7, one of the most famous passages in the Bible, Paul paints a picture of what love is really like.\u00a0 Since God is love, we can say that\u00a0<strong>1<\/strong><strong>\u00a0Corinthians\u00a013:4-7 is a picture of what\u00a0<em>God\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong>is really like<\/strong>.\u00a0 If you ever wonder what God is like, you can think of Him this way:<\/p>\n<p>God is patient.\u00a0 God is kind.\u00a0 God does not envy.\u00a0 God does not boast.\u00a0 God is not proud.\u00a0 God is not rude.\u00a0 God is not self-seeking.\u00a0 God is not easily angered.\u00a0 God keeps no record of wrongs.\u00a0 God does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.\u00a0 God always protects.\u00a0 God always trusts.\u00a0 God always hopes.\u00a0 God always perseveres.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>1 Corinthians 13:8-10 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away.<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For we know in part and we prophesy in part,<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 8-10:\u00a0\u00a0To a church in Corinth that tended to glorify and overhype certain spiritual gifts, Paul emphasizes that\u00a0<strong>love is greater than the gifts<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0Love will last forever, whereas these gifts that the Corinthian Christians tended to hype are only for our time on earth, for when we get to heaven (\u201cwhen perfection comes\u201d \u2013 v10) it will be a whole new ballgame when it comes to the gifts we\u2019ll be able to enjoy.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>1 Corinthians 13:11 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 11:\u00a0\u00a0Here Paul is encouraging the Corinthian church to leave their childish ways of glorifying and overhyping gifts that will not last while ignoring the one thing that lasts forever, which is love.\u00a0\u00a0What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Part of growing up and maturing is leaving our childish ways, whether those childish ways are in relation to how we treat God, how we treat others, or how we see ourselves and what God has entrusted to us.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>1 Corinthians 13:12 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 12:\u00a0\u00a0Earlier in this passage Paul mentions prophecies, tongues and knowledge, which are all spiritual gifts that can seem quite impressive to others.\u00a0\u00a0Yet Paul identifies one thing that these gifts all have in common \u2013 they are all based on limited understanding, on knowing only \u201cin part\u201d (v12), like seeing a poor reflection as in an unclear mirror (v12).\u00a0\u00a0In contrast, one day when we see Jesus face to face, it will no longer be partial revelation or partial knowledge that we will receive, but full revelation and full knowledge.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Praise God that what we only know in part today, one day we will understand and know fully in heaven.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>1 Corinthians 13:13 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 13:\u00a0\u00a0As important as faith, hope and love are, why does Paul say that love is greater than faith and hope?\u00a0\u00a0Perhaps it is because where you find love, you find Christian faith and Christian hope.\u00a0\u00a0For example, verse 7 says that love \u201calways trusts\u201d (i.e. has faith) and love \u201calways hopes\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0In other words,\u00a0<strong>find love and there you\u2019ll find faith and hope as well.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Thank You, Lord Jesus, for showing us what true love really is, and also what God is really like.\u00a0 Every day may You make us more and more like You, that we would put our childish ways behind us (v11), and mature into the men and women you made us to be \u2013 people who are known for our faith, hope, and love.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name we pray, Amen!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is 1 Corinthians 13:4-13.
