(His mother&#8217;s name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri the Danite.)<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They put him in custody until the will of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0should be made clear to them.<br \/>\n<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then the\u00a0LORD\u00a0said to Moses:<br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;Take the blasphemer outside the camp. All those who heard him are to lay their hands on his head, and the entire assembly is to stone him.<br \/>\n<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Say to the Israelites: &#8216;If anyone curses his God, he will be held responsible;<br \/>\n<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0anyone who blasphemes the name of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0must be put to death. The entire assembly must stone him. Whether an alien or native-born, when he blasphemes the Name, he must be put to death.<br \/>\n<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;&#8216;If anyone takes the life of a human being, he must be put to death.<br \/>\n<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Anyone who takes the life of someone&#8217;s animal must make restitution&#8211;life for life.<br \/>\n<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0If anyone injures his neighbor, whatever he has done must be done to him:<br \/>\n<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0fracture for fracture, eye for eye, tooth for tooth. As he has injured the other, so he is to be injured.<br \/>\n<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Whoever kills an animal must make restitution, but whoever kills a man must be put to death.<br \/>\n<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You are to have the same law for the alien and the native-born. I am the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God.'&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then Moses spoke to the Israelites, and they took the blasphemer outside the camp and stoned him. The Israelites did as the\u00a0LORD\u00a0commanded Moses.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 10-23:\u00a0\u00a0Leviticus\u00a024:10-23 describes how Moses dealt with a half-Israelite, half-Egyptian man who had been found &#8220;blaspheming the name of God&#8221; (that is, misusing God&#8217;s name and speaking about God&#8217;s name disrespectfully).\u00a0 The people bring this man to Moses, Moses waits until he has a clear direction from God, and eventually the man is stoned in accordance with God&#8217;s command.\u00a0 Here are two lessons we can learn from this passage:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1. Seek God&#8217;s will when making a tough decision. \u00a0<\/strong>Are you needing to make a tough decision?\u00a0 Don&#8217;t rush it.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t decide based on how you feel.\u00a0 Otherwise, you might miss the will of God.\u00a0 Instead, when you&#8217;re faced with a difficult question, go to God and seek His will until it&#8217;s clear in your heart and mind what He wants you to do.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what Moses did in verse 12: &#8220;They put him in custody until the will of the Lord should be made clear to them.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><strong>2. Protect God&#8217;s name. \u00a0<\/strong>The name of Jesus is precious.\u00a0 The Bible says that no other name can save us and that at the name of Jesus every knee will bow.\u00a0 It&#8217;s no wonder that in the middle of talking about a man who blasphemes God&#8217;s name,\u00a0Leviticus\u00a024:17-21\u00a0<wbr \/>starts talking about what happens when a person takes away another\u2019s life; it&#8217;s because God&#8217;s name and our lives go hand in hand.\u00a0 We can&#8217;t live without God&#8217;s name.\u00a0 Jesus&#8217; name is the most precious, life-giving name there is.<\/p>\n<p>As life-giving and all-surpassing as Jesus\u2019 name is, unfortunately there is also no other name that is more abused, more misused and more mistreated in our world than Jesus&#8217; name.\u00a0 Our world has turned the most precious, beautiful, life-giving name into a cuss word.<\/p>\n<p>Be careful to protect God&#8217;s name.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t say, &#8220;Oh my God&#8221; unless you&#8217;re actually praying to God.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t use the name of Jesus as a swear word.
