Today\u2019s passage is Leviticus 26:1-13.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n

Leviticus 26:1-2 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong>
\n1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“‘Do not make idols or set up an image or a sacred stone for yourselves, and do not place a carved stone in your land to bow down before it. I am the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God.
\n2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“‘Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the\u00a0LORD.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 1-2:\u00a0\u00a0While verses 3-13 will show us all the blessings that the Lord promised to give the Israelites if they would only obey Him, verses 1-2 teach us an important, counterbalancing truth: we are to obey God and worship Him only \u2013 and not any idol \u2013 not simply because of what God will do for us in return, but because of who God is.\u00a0\u00a0That is why after both verses 1 and 2, God follows up His commands with a statement about who He is: \u201cI am the Lord yur God\u201d (v1), \u201cI am the Lord\u201d (v2).\u00a0\u00a0Regardless of what God does for us, the fact that God is God, the King over everything, is reason enough to worship and obey Him.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

Leviticus 26:3-13 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong>
\n3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“‘If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands,
\n4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees of the field their fruit.
\n5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Your threshing will continue until grape harvest and the grape harvest will continue until planting, and you will eat all the food you want and live in safety in your land.
\n6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“‘I will grant peace in the land, and you will lie down and no one will make you afraid. I will remove savage beasts from the land, and the sword will not pass through your country.
\n7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you.
\n8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Five of you will chase a hundred, and a hundred of you will chase ten thousand, and your enemies will fall by the sword before you.
\n9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“‘I will look on you with favor and make you fruitful and increase your numbers, and I will keep my covenant with you.
\n10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You will still be eating last year’s harvest when you will have to move it out to make room for the new.
\n11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you.
\n12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.
\n13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I am the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God, who brought you out of Egypt so that you would no longer be slaves to the Egyptians; I broke the bars of your yoke and enabled you to walk with heads held high.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 3-13:\u00a0\u00a0God\u2019s message to the Israelites here is simple: obey me and you will be tremendously blessed in every way.\u00a0\u00a0Verses 4 to 13 contain a list of ways that God promised to blessed the Israelites if they obeyed Him:<\/p>\n

– provision for their every need (v4)<\/p>\n

– safety and security (v5)<\/p>\n

– peace and rest (v6)<\/p>\n

– a life where they\u00a0\u00a0don’t need to fear anyone or anything (v6-7)<\/p>\n

– amazing success and victory over their enemies (v7-8)<\/p>\n

– God’s favour on their life (v9)<\/p>\n

– fruitfulness and increase (v9)<\/p>\n

– God’s faithfulness in their lives (v9 – “I will keep my covenant with you”)<\/p>\n

– more blessing than they could contain (v10)<\/p>\n

– God’s presence and acceptance (v11)<\/p>\n

– a close relationship with God (v12)<\/p>\n

– belonging to God and God’s people (v12)<\/p>\n

– freedom from things that once bound them (v13)<\/p>\n

– confidence, dignity and joy (v13 – “enabled you to walk with heads held high”)<\/p>\n

These were the blessings God promised to give those who obeyed Him fully.<\/p>\n

While we could never fully follow God’s decrees and obey His commands on our own, I’m so glad that there’s Someone who did it for us: Jesus Christ.<\/strong>\u00a0 Jesus lived the life that we couldn’t live, a life that perfectly obeyed God’s Word.\u00a0 And if you have received Jesus Christ by faith, all of the blessings that come from His obedience, including all the blessings described in\u00a0Leviticus\u00a026:3-13, are yours as well.<\/p>\n

Join me in praying this prayer over your life today:<\/p>\n

Lord, because You are God, the King and Ruler of everything, I confess that You are worthy of my worship and obedience no matter what.\u00a0\u00a0At the same time, thank You Lord Jesus that in You I have:<\/em><\/p>\n

– provision for my every need (v4)<\/p>\n

– safety and security (v5)<\/p>\n

– peace and rest (v6)<\/p>\n

– a life where I don’t need to fear anyone or anything (v6-7)<\/p>\n

– amazing success and victory over my Enemy (v7-8)<\/p>\n

– God’s favour on my life (v9)<\/p>\n

– fruitfulness and increase (v9)<\/p>\n

– God’s faithfulness in my life (v9 – “I will keep my covenant with you”)<\/p>\n
