{"id":18809,"date":"2021-11-30T22:00:59","date_gmt":"2021-12-01T05:00:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/titus-2_9-15-copy\/"},"modified":"2021-11-23T18:01:14","modified_gmt":"2021-11-24T01:01:14","slug":"titus-3_1-8","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/titus-3_1-8\/","title":{"rendered":"Five Verses That Sum It All Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Titus 3:1-8 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Titus+3%3A1-8&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-18812 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/21-1201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/21-1201.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/11\/21-1201-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Titus 3:1-8.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Titus 3:1-2 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good,<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-2:\u00a0 One of the big themes of the book of Titus is that Christians are to lead by example as much as by their words.\u00a0 In verses 1 and 2 Paul identifies several characteristics by which Christians can lead by example.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>How well do you demonstrate these characteristics?\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0For example, are you law-abiding (v1)?\u00a0 Are you quick and ready to do what is good (v1)?\u00a0 Do you slander (speak maliciously about)\u00a0<em>no one<\/em>\u00a0(v2)?\u00a0 Do you get along with others (\u201cpeaceable\u201d \u2013 v2)?\u00a0 Are you thoughtful and considerate in the way you treat others (v2)?\u00a0 \u00a0Do you show true humility to everyone you meet (v2)?\u00a0 Which of these characteristics do you especially need to work on?<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Titus 3:3-7 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0At one time we too were foolish, disobedient, deceived and enslaved by all kinds of passions and pleasures. We lived in malice and envy, being hated and hating one another.<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But when the kindness and love of God our Savior appeared,<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0whom he poured out on us generously through Jesus Christ our Savior,<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0so that, having been justified by his grace, we might become heirs having the hope of eternal life.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 3-7:\u00a0\u00a0<strong>One of the best and most beautiful summaries of the Christian faith that you can find in the Bible is right here in these five verses.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<strong>I encourage you to memorize these verses.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Through these five verses we are reminded of the foundational truths that comprise the Gospel:<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0All of us have sinned and fallen short of God\u2019s standards (v3);<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0Despite our sin, God showed undeserved kindness to us, saving us not because of anything righteous we did, but because of his mercy (v4);<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0God the Father accomplished His saving work in our lives by sending Jesus Christ who died on the cross for our sins and through the Holy Spirit who works in us to respond to Jesus (v5-6) (By the way, notice how all 3 persons of the Trinity \u2013 Father, Son and Holy Spirit \u2013 were involved in making our salvation possible);<\/p>\n<p>\u00b7\u00a0By God\u2019s undeserved grace, we have been \u201cjustified\u201d (v7) \u2013 that is, declared righteous and \u201cnot guilty\u201d in God\u2019s sight.\u00a0 As a result, we have the hope of eternal life (v7).<\/p>\n<p>Also, once again, for the third chapter in a row, Paul calls God \u201cour Saviour\u201d (v4) and Christ \u201cour Saviour\u201d (v6).\u00a0 It\u2019s the biggest theme in Titus: God is a saving God and the Saviour He has provided to us is His Son Jesus.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Titus 3:8 (NIV)\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0This is a trustworthy saying. And I want you to stress these things, so that those who have trusted in God may be careful to devote themselves to doing what is good.
