{"id":19089,"date":"2021-12-12T22:00:05","date_gmt":"2021-12-13T05:00:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/exodus-5_1-23-copy\/"},"modified":"2021-12-09T00:10:04","modified_gmt":"2021-12-09T07:10:04","slug":"exodus-6_1-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/exodus-6_1-13\/","title":{"rendered":"Because I Am, I Will"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Exodus\u00a06:1-13 \u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus+6%3A1-13&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19092 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/211213.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/211213.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/211213-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Exodus 6:1-13.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Exodus 6:1 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then the\u00a0LORD\u00a0said to Moses, &#8220;Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand he will let them go; because of my mighty hand he will drive them out of his country.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 1:\u00a0\u00a0Moses and Aaron had approached Pharaoh about letting the Israelite slaves go, but Pharaoh rejected their request and even increased the Israelite slaves\u2019 workload as a result.\u00a0\u00a0Moses could not understand why, especially when God had promised that Pharaoh would let the Israelites go (see Exodus 5:22-23).\u00a0\u00a0God reassures Moses that Pharaoh will (eventually) let the Israelite people go.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>When God promises to do something, He will do it according to His timing, not your timing.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0Rather than getting upset with God because God didn\u2019t do things according to your way and timing, trust God that His way and His timing are perfect.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>When God doesn\u2019t do it in your way and your time, it means that He is writing a greater story than the one you have in mind.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Exodus 6:2-8 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0God also said to Moses, &#8220;I am the\u00a0LORD.<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob as God Almighty, but by my name the\u00a0LORD\u00a0I did not make myself known to them.<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I also established my covenant with them to give them the land of Canaan, where they lived as aliens.<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Moreover, I have heard the groaning of the Israelites, whom the Egyptians are enslaving, and I have remembered my covenant.<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;Therefore, say to the Israelites: &#8216;I am the\u00a0LORD, and\u00a0<strong><u>I will<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.\u00a0<strong><u>I will<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0free you from being slaves to them, and\u00a0<strong><u>I will<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment.<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0<strong><u>I will<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0take you as my own people, and\u00a0<strong><u>I will<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0be your God. Then you will know that I am the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians.<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And\u00a0<strong><u>I will<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob.\u00a0<strong><u>I will<\/u><\/strong>\u00a0give it to you as a possession. I am the\u00a0LORD.'&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 2-8:\u00a0\u00a0In response to Moses\u2019 questions, God promises that He will bring the Israelites out of Egypt into a land of their own.\u00a0\u00a0At least 7 times God says, \u201c<strong><em>I will<\/em><\/strong>\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0Now why should you trust God?\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s because, as God says 3 times in this same passage, \u201cI am the LORD\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0As we learned earlier this week, &#8220;LORD&#8221; is a reference to the Hebrew name &#8220;Yahweh&#8221;. &#8220;Yahweh&#8221; is God&#8217;s personal name. He invited His people Israel to call Him by that name. &#8220;Yahweh&#8221; means &#8220;I AM WHO I AM&#8221; or &#8220;I WILL BE WHO WILL BE&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The name \u201cI AM WHO I AM\u201d speaks of God\u2019s presence: that God is present with us right now.\u00a0\u00a0It speaks of God\u2019s greatness: that God\u2019s existence does not depend on anyone or anything, and that God has ultimate power over everything.\u00a0\u00a0It speaks of God\u2019s sovereignty: that God does not need anyone\u2019s permission to be or do anything He wants.\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s as if God was saying to Moses, \u201cBecause I am, I will.\u00a0\u00a0Because I am who I am, I will do what I say I will do.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0Not even Egypt, the most powerful empire in the world at the time, could stop God from doing what God pleases.\u00a0\u00a0(Considering what &#8220;I AM WHO I AM&#8221; means, you can see why in John 8:58, the Jews were shocked when Jesus said &#8220;Before Abraham was, I AM!&#8221; Jesus a man of about 30 years in age was claiming to be this same Yahweh.)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Because the Lord is who He is, you can trust Him to do what He says He will do.\u00a0\u00a0Nothing can stop Him from fulfilling His promises. Because He is, He will.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Exodus 6:9-12 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Moses reported this to the Israelites, but they did not listen to him because of their discouragement and cruel bondage.<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then the\u00a0LORD\u00a0said to Moses,<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;Go, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the Israelites go out of his country.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But Moses said to the\u00a0LORD, &#8220;If the Israelites will not listen to me, why would Pharaoh listen to me, since I speak with faltering lips?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 9-12:\u00a0\u00a0Because the Israelites were discouraged and in pain, they did not listen to Moses (v9).\u00a0\u00a0Because Moses himself was discouraged by the way Pharaoh and the Israelites rejected him, Moses was reluctant to go again to Pharaoh and demand that Pharaoh let the Israelites go (v10-12).\u00a0\u00a0<strong>It goes to show that our openness to obey and listen to God depends on the condition of our hearts.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>When we are discouraged, we might hesitate to look to God and to listen to Him, especially when our discouragement is the result of stepping out in faith and failing.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Like Moses, when you experience failure or discouragement, don\u2019t run from God but run to Him and keep dialoguing with Him.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Exodus 6:13 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Now the\u00a0LORD\u00a0spoke to Moses and Aaron about the Israelites and Pharaoh king of Egypt, and he commanded them to bring the Israelites out of Egypt.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 13:\u00a0\u00a0While Moses and Aaron\u2019s courage and their feelings about their mission would go up and down, God remained consistent in His message to Moses and Aaron.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Praise God that He is our rock, the One whose word doesn\u2019t change depending on His mood or the circumstances.\u00a0\u00a0God stays consistent.\u00a0\u00a0He is the same yesterday, today and forever.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Heavenly Father, thank You that You are faithful to keep Your promises and to accomplish Your purposes.\u00a0\u00a0You are Yahweh \u2013 present, pre-eminent, sovereign, and unstoppable.\u00a0\u00a0Thank You that in my discouragement, I can run to You.\u00a0\u00a0In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Exodus 6:1-13.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p>Exodus 6:1 (NIV)<br \/>\n1\u00a0\u00a0Then the\u00a0LORD\u00a0said to Moses, &#8220;Now you will see what I will do to Pharaoh: Because of my mighty hand he will let them go;
