These were the clans of Reuben.<br \/>\n<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The sons of Simeon were Jemuel, Jamin, Ohad, Jakin, Zohar and Shaul the son of a Canaanite woman. These were the clans of Simeon.<br \/>\n<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0These were the names of the sons of Levi according to their records: Gershon, Kohath and Merari. Levi lived 137 years.<br \/>\n<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The sons of Gershon, by clans, were Libni and Shimei.<br \/>\n<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The sons of Kohath were Amram, Izhar, Hebron and Uzziel. Kohath lived 133 years.<br \/>\n<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The sons of Merari were Mahli and Mushi. These were the clans of Levi according to their records.<br \/>\n<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Amram married his father&#8217;s sister Jochebed, who bore him Aaron and Moses. Amram lived 137 years.<br \/>\n<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The sons of Izhar were Korah, Nepheg and Zicri.<br \/>\n<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The sons of Uzziel were Mishael, Elzaphan and Sithri.<br \/>\n<sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Aaron married Elisheba, daughter of Amminadab and sister of Nahshon, and she bore him Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar.<br \/>\n<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The sons of Korah were Assir, Elkanah and Abiasaph. These were the Korahite clans.<br \/>\n<sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Eleazar son of Aaron married one of the daughters of Putiel, and she bore him Phinehas. These were the heads of the Levite families, clan by clan.<br \/>\n<sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0It was this same Aaron and Moses to whom the\u00a0LORD\u00a0said, &#8220;Bring the Israelites out of Egypt by their divisions.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>27\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They were the ones who spoke to Pharaoh king of Egypt about bringing the Israelites out of Egypt. It was the same Moses and Aaron.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 13-27:\u00a0\u00a0Just before we get into the big action scenes of Exodus, we are first given a genealogy (i.e. a summary of the family line) for Moses and Aaron.\u00a0\u00a0The purpose of this genealogy was to show future generations of Israelites where exactly Moses and Aaron fit under the family tree of their nation\u2019s patriarchs Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (also known as Israel).\u00a0\u00a0It is an abbreviated, selective genealogy that does not show every name and every generation in Moses and Aaron\u2019s family tree, but just enough to show that Moses and Aaron were descendants of Israel\u2019s third son Levi, and the origins of some of Aaron\u2019s descendants like Nadab, Abihu, Eleazar, and Phinehas, who would play prominent roles in Israel later on.<\/p>\n<p>When you consider Moses and Aaron\u2019s family tree, it is clear that Moses and Aaron did not come from a perfect family line.\u00a0\u00a0Their ancestor Levi (v16) was infamous for massacring a city (Genesis 34:25-31).\u00a0\u00a0Their father Amram and their mother Jochebad actually had a nephew-aunt relationship before they became husband and wife (v20).\u00a0\u00a0Moses and Aaron\u2019s cousin Korah (v21, 24) would later lead a rebellion against Moses and Aaron.\u00a0\u00a0As verse 26 says, \u201c[i]t was this same Aaron and Moses\u201d with this broken family background that God called to lead the Israelites.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Your background does not disqualify you from serving God and being called by Him.<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0No matter what kind of background or past you come from, God can use you to make a difference.\u00a0\u00a0You have a role to play in God\u2019s kingdom regardless of your history.<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Exodus 6:28-30 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>28\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Now when the\u00a0LORD\u00a0spoke to Moses in Egypt,<br \/>\n<sup>29\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0he said to him, &#8220;I am the\u00a0LORD.
