{"id":19302,"date":"2021-12-19T22:00:27","date_gmt":"2021-12-20T05:00:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/exodus-8_16-32-copy\/"},"modified":"2021-12-17T23:59:21","modified_gmt":"2021-12-18T06:59:21","slug":"exodus-9_1-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/exodus-9_1-12\/","title":{"rendered":"Don\u2019t Let Pride Get in the Way"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>Exodus 9:1-12\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus+9%3A1-12&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19306 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/21-1220.gif\" alt=\"\" width=\"480\" height=\"270\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage: Exodus 9:1-12.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Exodus 9:1-12 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then the\u00a0LORD\u00a0said to Moses, &#8220;Go to Pharaoh and say to him, &#8216;This is what the\u00a0LORD, the God of the Hebrews, says: &#8220;Let my people go, so that they may worship me.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0If you refuse to let them go and continue to hold them back,<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0the hand of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0will bring a terrible plague on your livestock in the field&#8211;on your horses and donkeys and camels and on your cattle and sheep and goats.<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But the\u00a0LORD\u00a0will make a distinction between the livestock of Israel and that of Egypt, so that no animal belonging to the Israelites will die.'&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The\u00a0LORD\u00a0set a time and said, &#8220;Tomorrow the\u00a0LORD\u00a0will do this in the land.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And the next day the\u00a0LORD\u00a0did it: All the livestock of the Egyptians died, but not one animal belonging to the Israelites died.<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Pharaoh sent men to investigate and found that not even one of the animals of the Israelites had died. Yet his heart was unyielding and he would not let the people go.<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then the\u00a0LORD\u00a0said to Moses and Aaron, &#8220;Take handfuls of soot from a furnace and have Moses toss it into the air in the presence of Pharaoh.<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0It will become fine dust over the whole land of Egypt, and festering boils will break out on men and animals throughout the land.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So they took soot from a furnace and stood before Pharaoh. Moses tossed it into the air, and festering boils broke out on men and animals.<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils that were on them and on all the Egyptians.<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But the\u00a0LORD\u00a0hardened Pharaoh&#8217;s heart and he would not listen to Moses and Aaron, just as the\u00a0LORD\u00a0had said to Moses.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-19305 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/21-1220-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/21-1220-1.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/21-1220-1-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-12:\u00a0\u00a0The plagues seem to be getting worse in their severity.\u00a0\u00a0Plagues 2 through 4 consisting of the frogs, the gnats, and the flies were probably minor irritations compared plague 5 where God starts hitting the Egyptians\u2019 bank accounts by killing off their livestock as well as plague 6 with the boils.\u00a0\u00a0At this point you need to wonder what Pharaoh was thinking: the people he is leading are suffering greatly, so why does he not surrender to the Lord to save his own people?\u00a0\u00a0It seems that Pharaoh would rather let his people suffer than swallow his own pride.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Beware of pride, for if we\u2019re not careful, pride can cause us to make very foolish decisions that unnecessarily harm those we are called to protect.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Also, another lesson we learn here is that\u00a0<strong>the longer we delay in obeying God and the longer we keep playing games with Him, the more painful it gets for us and those closest to us<\/strong>.\u00a0\u00a0We\u2019re always better off obeying God earlier than later.<\/p>\n<p>Finally, can we really blame Pharaoh since it says in verse 12 that \u201cthe Lord hardened Pharaoh\u2019s heart\u201d?\u00a0\u00a0Keep in mind that the hardening of Pharaoh\u2019s heart was not something God did independently of Pharaoh.\u00a0\u00a0Before this, in Exodus 8:15 and Exodus 8:32 it says that Pharaoh hardened his own heart.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>We ourselves must choose whether our heart will be hard or humble toward God.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Heavenly Father, I pray that I would not let pride get in the way of doing what is right.\u00a0\u00a0Thank You for showing me that I am always better
