{"id":1975,"date":"2019-02-18T21:00:45","date_gmt":"2019-02-19T04:00:45","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=1975"},"modified":"2019-02-19T00:11:10","modified_gmt":"2019-02-19T07:11:10","slug":"1_kings_1_28-40","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/1_kings_1_28-40\/","title":{"rendered":"You Got the King on Your Side"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>1 Kings 1:28-40\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Kings+1%3A28-40&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-1988 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/190219a.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/190219a.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/190219a-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/02\/190219a-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s passage is 1 Kings 1:28-40.\u00a0 Let&#8217;s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Kings 1:28-31 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">28\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Then King David said, &#8220;Call in Bathsheba.&#8221; So she came into the king&#8217;s presence and stood before him.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">29\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>The king then took an oath: &#8220;As surely as the LORD lives, who has delivered me out of every trouble,<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">30\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>I will surely carry out today what I swore to you by the LORD, the God of Israel: Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">31\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Then Bathsheba bowed low with her face to the ground and, kneeling before the king, said, &#8220;May my lord King David live forever!&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 29-31:\u00a0 Despite the fact that many people had already sided with Adonijah, David decides to install Solomon as the new king in place of David.\u00a0 By doing this, David was fulfilling a promise he had made to his wife Bathsheba to make Solomon the next king (v29-30). In response, Bathsheba bows low before David and blesses him.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Keep your word and fulfill your promises no matter how hard or inconvenient it may seem.\u00a0<\/strong>When you are committed to keeping your word, you will earn the reputation of being trustworthy, someone others can count on.\u00a0 Also, you please God and earn the respect of others when you keep your word.<\/p>\n<p>But the opposite is also true:\u00a0<strong>the quickest way to lose someone&#8217;s respect is to break your promise.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0That promise might seem small, like &#8220;I&#8217;ll message you\u00a0tomorrow&#8221;.\u00a0 But if you don&#8217;t take your own word seriously, others will not take your word seriously either.\u00a0 Eventually they&#8217;ll start thinking this about you: &#8220;When he says he&#8217;ll give it\u00a0tomorrow, don&#8217;t count on it.\u00a0 Or when he says he&#8217;ll try, who knows if he&#8217;ll actually get to it.\u00a0 Or whenever he says anything, take it with a grain of salt.&#8221;\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Don&#8217;t commit reputational suicide by failing to keep your word.\u00a0 Just as the Lord was faithful to His promise to deliver David each and every time (v29), keep your word consistently and you&#8217;ll earn others&#8217; respect.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On verses 32-40:\u00a0 Adonijah had gone to great lengths to garner the support of different royal officials.\u00a0 He did everything he could in his power to take the throne.\u00a0 But a single decision and a single statement from King David &#8212; &#8220;Solomon&#8230;shall be king after me and he will sit on my throne in my place&#8221; (v30) &#8212; changed everything.\u00a0 By making this one decision and one statement, King David effectively nullified all of Adonijah&#8217;s efforts and plans.\u00a0 David was too weak to hold a sword, but his word could still move a nation.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>It helps to be friends with a king.\u00a0 When the king is on your side, it doesn&#8217;t matter who is against you.<\/strong>\u00a0 Because Solomon had the king in his corner, he didn&#8217;t have to lift a finger or say a thing, and he still became king.\u00a0 (Notice Solomon doesn&#8217;t even speak in 1 Kings until verse 52, after he is already king.)<\/p>\n<p>Just as Solomon had David in his corner, you have a king on your side.\u00a0 His name is Jesus.\u00a0 And keep this in mind: Jesus is a lot more powerful than David.\u00a0 In 1 Kings 1, David could hardly take care of himself physically and yet his word could still move a nation.\u00a0 Jesus is alive and with a single word He can calm the storm, heal the sick, raise the dead and create new worlds.\u00a0 It&#8217;s because Jesus has authority like no other.<\/p>\n<p><strong>So it doesn&#8217;t matter who or what you&#8217;re up against today.\u00a0 Jesus, the king of kings and the name above all names, is on your side.\u00a0 And with one word, one decision, one statement, Jesus can change anything.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Are you trying to figure it all out by yourself like Adonijah?\u00a0 Stop it.\u00a0 Remember you&#8217;re like Solomon.\u00a0 You&#8217;ve got the King as your friend.\u00a0 He has already made great promises about you.\u00a0 So go to Him and let Him speak the word that will change your destiny and the destiny of those in your care.<\/p>\n<p><em>Heavenly Father, j<\/em><em>ust as You always keep Your Word and are always faithful to Your promises, may I keep my word and be faithful to my promises as well.\u00a0 \u00a0May I be known as someone who keeps their word.\u00a0 And t<\/em><em>hank You that, like young Solomon, I got the King on my side.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><em>Because Jesus the King is on my side, it doesn&#8217;t matter who or what is against me.\u00a0 Thank You that\u00a0<\/em><em>it doesn&#8217;t depend on what I or others say or do.\u00a0 It all depends on You, and You are good.\u00a0 In Jesus&#8217;
