{"id":21947,"date":"2022-06-12T22:00:38","date_gmt":"2022-06-13T05:00:38","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/deuteronomy_6_1-13-copy\/"},"modified":"2022-06-07T17:50:06","modified_gmt":"2022-06-08T00:50:06","slug":"deuteronomy_6_14-25","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/deuteronomy_6_14-25\/","title":{"rendered":"That Will Be Your Righteousness"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>Deuteronomy\u00a0 6:14-25 \u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy+6%3A14-25&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21949 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/22-0613.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/22-0613.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/22-0613-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi\u00a0 GAMErs!<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div id=\"m_-7083819128915897480q_5\" aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-label=\"Hide expanded content\">\n<div>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Deuteronomy 6:14-25.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Deuteronomy 6:14-25 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Do not follow other gods, the gods of the peoples around you;<br \/>\n<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0for the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God, who is among you, is a jealous God and his anger will burn against you, and he will destroy you from the face of the land.<br \/>\n<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Do not test the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God as you did at Massah.<br \/>\n<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Be sure to keep the commands of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God and the stipulations and decrees he has given you.<br \/>\n<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Do what is right and good in the\u00a0LORD&#8217;s sight, so that it may go well with you and you may go in and take over the good land that the\u00a0LORD\u00a0promised on oath to your forefathers,<br \/>\n<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0thrusting out all your enemies before you, as the\u00a0LORD\u00a0said.<br \/>\n<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0In the future, when your son asks you, &#8220;What is the meaning of the stipulations, decrees and laws the\u00a0LORD\u00a0our God has commanded you?&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0tell him: &#8220;We were slaves of Pharaoh in Egypt, but the\u00a0LORD\u00a0brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand.<br \/>\n<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Before our eyes the\u00a0LORD\u00a0sent miraculous signs and wonders&#8211;great and terrible&#8211;upon Egypt and Pharaoh and his whole household.<br \/>\n<sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But he brought us out from there to bring us in and give us the land that he promised on oath to our forefathers.<br \/>\n<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The\u00a0LORD\u00a0commanded us to obey all these decrees and to fear the\u00a0LORD\u00a0our God, so that we might always prosper and be kept alive, as is the case today.<br \/>\n<sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And if we are careful to obey all this law before the\u00a0LORD\u00a0our God, as he has commanded us, that will be our righteousness.&#8221;<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nOn verses 14-25:\u00a0 Whether it\u2019s not following other gods (v14-15), not testing God (v16), keeping all of God\u2019s stipulations and decrees (v17), always doing what is right in God\u2019s sight (v18), or teaching the next generation about God (v20), it is clear here that God\u2019s standards are absolutely perfect.\u00a0 That\u2019s why God demanded perfect obedience from the Israelites.\u00a0 Moses sums it up in verse 25 when he says that \u201cif we are careful to obey all of God&#8217;s laws, that will be &#8220;our righteousness&#8221;.\u00a0 By &#8220;righteousness&#8221;, Moses means that God will see them as blameless and qualified to be in His presence.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s the problem though: \u00a0we can never perfectly obey God&#8217;s laws.\u00a0 So how can we ever attain righteousness by our own effort?\u00a0 We can&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>But the bigger story of the whole Bible is that God saw our inability to meet all of His requirements and had compassion on us.\u00a0 He sent His Son Jesus Christ for us.\u00a0 Jesus is the only one who perfectly obeyed all of God&#8217;s laws.
