{"id":21963,"date":"2022-06-16T22:00:44","date_gmt":"2022-06-17T05:00:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/deuteronomy_8_1-9-copy\/"},"modified":"2022-06-07T18:33:41","modified_gmt":"2022-06-08T01:33:41","slug":"deuteronomy_8_10-20","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/deuteronomy_8_10-20\/","title":{"rendered":"Keys to a Happy Heart"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>Deuteronomy\u00a0 8:10-20\u00a0 \u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy+8%3A10-20&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-21965 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/22-0617.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/22-0617.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/22-0617-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi\u00a0 GAMErs!<\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div id=\"m_-7083819128915897480q_5\" aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-label=\"Hide expanded content\">\n<div>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Deuteronomy 8:10-20, in which we learn a number of keys to a happy heart.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Deuteronomy 8:10 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When you have eaten and are satisfied, praise the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God for the good land he has given you.<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nOn verse 10:\u00a0 A lot of us out of habit pray before we eat, which is good.\u00a0 How about try praying\u00a0<em>after<\/em>\u00a0we eat!\u00a0 That is,\u00a0<strong>when you\u2019ve received something good, even what might seem ordinary or small, praise the Lord for it, for every good gift comes from God<\/strong>.\u00a0 What is something \u201cordinary\u201d or \u201csmall\u201d you received today that you can thank God for?<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Deuteronomy 8:11-14 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Be careful that you do not forget the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God, failing to observe his commands, his laws and his decrees that I am giving you this day.<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Otherwise, when you eat and are satisfied, when you build fine houses and settle down,<br \/>\n<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and when your herds and flocks grow large and your silver and gold increase and all you have is multiplied,<br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0then your heart will become proud and you will forget the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 11-14:\u00a0 Moses knew that the Israelites were prone to wander away from God when things are going well and when life is relatively easy.\u00a0 So Moses warns them:\u00a0<strong>never forget how much you need God every day and in every season<\/strong>.\u00a0 Likewise, may we always have a heart to seek the Lord and to praise Him, both in the good times and in the tough times.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Deuteronomy 8:15-16 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He led you through the vast and dreadful desert, that thirsty and waterless land, with its venomous snakes and scorpions. He brought you water out of hard rock.<br \/>\n<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He gave you manna to eat in the desert, something your fathers had never known, to humble and to test you so that in the end it might go well with you.<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nOn verses 15-16:\u00a0 Moses warns the Israelites not to forget about all the miraculous ways God provided for them.\u00a0 Likewise,\u00a0<strong>remind yourself often about the miracles God has done in your life.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Deuteronomy 8:17-18 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You may say to yourself, &#8220;My power and the strength of my hands have produced this wealth for me.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But remember the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nOn verses 17-18:\u00a0 Remember that\u00a0<strong>even the ability to produce wealth comes from God<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 \u201cfor it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth\u201d (v18).\u00a0\u00a0<strong>May we always give God the credit for any blessings we receive and any success we achieve.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Deuteronomy 8:19-20 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0If you ever forget the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God and follow other gods and worship and bow down to them, I testify against you today that you will surely be destroyed.<br \/>\n<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Like the nations the\u00a0LORD\u00a0destroyed before you, so you will be destroyed for not obeying the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God.<br \/>\n<\/em><br \/>\nOn verses 19-20:\u00a0 What\u2019s a sure fire way to end up depressed, disillusioned and destroyed?\u00a0 Worship something other than the Lord.\u00a0 For you were made to worship the Lord and serve Him only \u2013 in that there is true and lasting joy, peace, and hope.<\/p>\n<p><em>Father, thank You that I got to wake up to a new day.\u00a0 Thank You for food to eat.\u00a0 Thank You that my eyes can read this message right now.\u00a0 Thank You for every \u201cordinary\u201d blessing, which is actually amazing.\u00a0 Thank You also for the big and extraordinary ways You have delivered me and provided for me in the past.\u00a0 Thank You for the ability to produce wealth, which I wouldn\u2019t have if not for You.\u00a0 Thank You that in You I find joy, peace and hope.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name,
