Today\u2019s passage is Deuteronomy 11:1-7.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n

Deuteronomy 11:1-7 (NIV)<\/strong>
\n1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Love the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God and keep his requirements, his decrees, his laws and his commands always.
\n2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Remember today that\u00a0your children were not the ones who saw<\/strong>\u00a0and experienced the discipline of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God: his majesty, his mighty hand, his outstretched arm;
\n3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0the signs he performed and the things he did in the heart of Egypt, both to Pharaoh king of Egypt and to his whole country;
\n4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0what he did to the Egyptian army, to its horses and chariots, how he overwhelmed them with the waters of the Red Sea as they were pursuing you, and how the\u00a0LORD\u00a0brought lasting ruin on them.
\n5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0It was not your children who saw what he did<\/strong>\u00a0for you in the desert until you arrived at this place,
\n6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and what he did to Dathan and Abiram, sons of Eliab the Reubenite, when the earth opened its mouth right in the middle of all Israel and swallowed them up with their households, their tents and every living thing that belonged to them.
\n7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But it was your own eyes that saw all these great things the\u00a0LORD\u00a0has done.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 1-11:\u00a0\u00a0In\u00a0Deuteronomy\u00a011:2, Moses reminds the current generation of Israelites that there were miracles, blessings and lessons that God had shown them which their kids had not seen.\u00a0 He emphasizes it again in verses 5-7:\u00a0“<\/sup>It was not your children who saw\u00a0<\/em>what he did for you…\u00a0But\u00a0it was your own eyes\u00a0<\/em>that saw all these great things the LORD has done.”<\/p>\n

What is Moses getting at?\u00a0 He’s implying that the current generation of Israelites have a responsibility to tell the next generation about the incredible miracles, blessings and lessons God had shown them.<\/p>\n

It reminds me of a game that we sometimes play in small groups called telephone charades.\u00a0 In a nutshell: people are trying to guess a secret message you’re trying to communicate to them through your actions.\u00a0 The hope is that your actions are clear enough that those watching you get the right message and can pass it on to others.<\/p>\n

After we played that game, I thought to myself: \u00a0what kind of picture do I show to others about who God is?\u00a0 When others see me — especially those whom God has placed in my care — do they see a clear and accurate picture of what Jesus is like?\u00a0 I pray that I would not confuse them, but that through my actions and words, I would paint for others a clear and compelling picture of who God is in my life.\u00a0 I’ll never get it perfectly, but I pray that what my family, my church, my friends, my co-workers, my neighbours, and others get from me is a picture worth passing on to others.<\/p>\n

I pray the same for you:\u00a0through your words and actions, may people catch a clear, compelling and accurate picture of how awesome and loving Jesus is.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Father, through my words and actions, I pray that I would help those around me catch a clear, accurate, and compelling picture of how awesome and loving You are.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n
