{"id":22087,"date":"2022-06-22T22:00:26","date_gmt":"2022-06-23T05:00:26","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/deuteronomy_11_1-7-copy\/"},"modified":"2022-06-21T13:15:31","modified_gmt":"2022-06-21T20:15:31","slug":"deuteronomy_11_8-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/deuteronomy_11_8-21\/","title":{"rendered":"God\u2019s Superfood for Your Strengthening"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>Deuteronomy 11:8-21\u00a0 \u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy+11%3A8-21+&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22089 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/22-0624.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/22-0624.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/06\/22-0624-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>There are a number of good lessons we can learn from today&#8217;s passage, Deuteronomy 11:8-21.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Deuteronomy 11:8-9 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Observe therefore all the commands I am giving you today, so that you may have the strength to go in and take over the land that you are crossing the Jordan to possess,<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and so that you may live long in the land that the\u00a0LORD\u00a0swore to your forefathers to give to them and their descendants, a land flowing with milk and honey.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 8-9:\u00a0 Moses tells this current generation of Israelites to observe all of God\u2019s commands so that they may have\u00a0<em>strength<\/em>\u00a0to \u201ctake over the land\u201d God has for them (v8) and also strength to \u201clive long in the land\u201d that they take over (v9).<\/p>\n<p>Likewise, as followers of Jesus, when we obey God\u2019s commands, it has a strengthening effect on our lives.\u00a0\u00a0Observing God\u2019s commands fills my life with peace, joy and satisfaction. It positions me to receive God&#8217;s blessings. It strengthens my faith and my capacity to love God. It gives me insight into why God gives His commands. It causes me to mature and grow up spiritually. It enables me to make the most of what God has given to me.\u00a0 It prepares me to take on greater territory.\u00a0 That&#8217;s what obedience to God\u2019s commands does. \u00a0<strong>Like a superfood, obedience to God&#8217;s Word strengthens you.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s a command from the Lord you can obey today?<\/p>\n<p><strong>While we will never obey God perfectly (after all, that&#8217;s why we need Jesus to save us) God wants us to experience the strength that comes from obeying Him.<\/strong>\u00a0That&#8217;s one reason why Jesus says in John 4:34:\u00a0&#8220;My food is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.&#8221;\u00a0 Obedience to God is a super food for your soul.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Deuteronomy 11:10-15 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The land you are entering to take over is not like the land of Egypt, from which you have come, where you planted your seed and irrigated it by foot as in a vegetable garden.<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But the land you are crossing the Jordan to take possession of is a land of mountains and valleys that drinks rain from heaven.<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0It is a land the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God cares for; the eyes of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God are continually on it from the beginning of the year to its end.<br \/>\n<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So if you faithfully obey the commands I am giving you today&#8211;to love the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul&#8211;<br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0then I will send rain on your land in its season, both autumn and spring rains, so that you may gather in your grain, new wine and oil.<br \/>\n<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I will provide grass in the fields for your cattle, and you will eat and be satisfied.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 10-15:\u00a0 Here Moses points out to the Israelites that the land they are about to enter is different from the land they have been used to living in.\u00a0 But Moses tells the Israelites that the key to flourishing in that new land is the same: \u201clove the LORD your God\u2026and serve Him with all your heart\u201d (v13) and He will add everything you need (v14-15).<\/p>\n<p>Likewise,\u00a0<strong>the new season you are in (or are about to enter) will be different in some significant ways from the season you just came out of, but the key to flourishing in this new season is the same:\u00a0 love, trust and serve God with all your heart, and He will add everything you need.<\/strong>\u00a0 God is with you in this new season, so hang on to Him tightly!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Deuteronomy 11:16-17 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Be careful, or you will be enticed to turn away and worship other gods and bow down to them.<br \/>\n<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then the\u00a0LORD&#8217;s anger will burn against you, and he will shut the heavens so that it will not rain and the ground will yield no produce, and you will soon perish from the good land the\u00a0LORD\u00a0is giving you.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 16-17:\u00a0 Moses warns the Israelites: don\u2019t \u201cturn away\u201d from God and worship other things; otherwise, God\u2019s anger will burn and He will shut the heavens so that we are separated from His blessings.\u00a0 The overarching story of the entire Bible is that all of us have turned away from God and the result is that the heavens are shut; that is, we have no way of reaching God or accessing heaven.\u00a0 But because God loves us, He sent Jesus Christ to pay the penalty for our sins on the cross, so that we could be forgiven and reconciled to God.\u00a0 That\u2019s why John 3:16 says \u201cFor God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0<strong>When we were locked out of heaven, Jesus came and unlocked heaven for us through His death on the cross.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Deuteronomy 11:18-21 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Fix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads.<br \/>\n<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Teach them to your children, talking about them when you sit at home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.<br \/>\n<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Write them on the doorframes of your houses and on your gates,<br \/>\n<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0so that your days and the days of your children may be many in the land that the\u00a0LORD\u00a0swore to give your forefathers, as many as the days that the heavens are above the earth.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 18-21:\u00a0 One of the recurring themes in Deuteronomy is that God\u2019s Word is food for our souls and critical to our success.\u00a0 So Moses tells this current generation of Israelites to \u201cfix these words of mine in your hearts and minds; tie them as symbols on your hands and bind them on your foreheads. Teach them to your children\u2026Write them on your doorframes\u2026\u201d \u00a0It\u2019s because\u00a0<strong>when we place God\u2019s Word in front of us often, we can\u2019t help but be changed by it<\/strong>.\u00a0 I encourage you to try to memorize Scripture verses that impact you, put them in places where you can see them often, and incorporate them into your prayers and even your conversations with others.\u00a0 For the more you set God\u2019s Word before you, the more you give God\u2019s Word room to transform your life.<\/p>\n<p><em>Thank You, Father, that Your Word gives me strength.
