The\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God is testing you to find out whether you love him with all your heart and with all your soul.<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0It is the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God you must follow, and him you must revere. Keep his commands and obey him; serve him and hold fast to him.<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0That prophet or dreamer must be put to death, because he preached rebellion against the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God, who brought you out of Egypt and redeemed you from the land of slavery; he has tried to turn you from the way the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God commanded you to follow. You must purge the evil from among you.<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0If your very own brother, or your son or daughter, or the wife you love, or your closest friend secretly entices you, saying, &#8220;Let us go and worship other gods&#8221; (gods that neither you nor your fathers have known,<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0gods of the peoples around you, whether near or far, from one end of the land to the other),<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0do not yield to him or listen to him. Show him no pity. Do not spare him or shield him.<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You must certainly put him to death. Your hand must be the first in putting him to death, and then the hands of all the people.<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Stone him to death, because he tried to turn you away from the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God, who brought you out of Egypt, out of the land of slavery.<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then all Israel will hear and be afraid, and no one among you will do such an evil thing again.<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0If you hear it said about one of the towns the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God is giving you to live in<br \/>\n<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0that wicked men have arisen among you and have led the people of their town astray, saying, &#8220;Let us go and worship other gods&#8221; (gods you have not known),<br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0then you must inquire, probe and investigate it thoroughly. And if it is true and it has been proved that this detestable thing has been done among you,<br \/>\n<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0you must certainly put to the sword all who live in that town. Destroy it completely, both its people and its livestock.<br \/>\n<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Gather all the plunder of the town into the middle of the public square and completely burn the town and all its plunder as a whole burnt offering to the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God. It is to remain a ruin forever, never to be rebuilt.<br \/>\n<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0None of those condemned things shall be found in your hands, so that the\u00a0LORD\u00a0will turn from his fierce anger; he will show you mercy, have compassion on you, and increase your numbers, as he promised on oath to your forefathers,<br \/>\n<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0because you obey the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God, keeping all his commands that I am giving you today and doing what is right in his eyes.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-18:\u00a0 In ancient Israel, leading a person to worship anyone other than the LORD was considered a capital offense punishable by death.\u00a0 What are we as Christians to do with a passage like this today?\u00a0 It\u2019s worth remembering that Jesus Christ died on the cross to pay for all our sins \u2013 including all the ways we have ever led others astray, and all the ways we ourselves have been led astray.\u00a0 When we deserved to die for our sins, Jesus Christ, who was innocent, took the fall for us all.\u00a0 That way God could turn His fierce anger away from our sins and instead show us mercy and compassion.<\/p>\n<p><em>Take a moment to pray for those you have invited and those you plan on inviting to our Thanksgiving services this Thanksgiving weekend.\u00a0\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Lord Jesus, You never led anyone astray, and never were led astray yourself, and yet You assumed all the punishment as if You were the one guilty of our sins.\u00a0 Thank You Jesus for loving us that much, that You would die on the cross for our sins, turning God\u2019s wrath away from sinners like us and toward Yourself.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<div>\n<div>\n<div id=\"m_-7083819128915897480q_5\" aria-expanded=\"true\" aria-label=\"Hide expanded content\">\n<div><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Deuteronomy 13:1-18.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p>Deuteronomy 13:1-18 (NIV)<br \/>\n1\u00a0\u00a0If a prophet, or one who foretells by dreams, appears among you and announces to you a miraculous sign or wonder,<br \/>\n2\u00a0\u00a0and if the sign or wonder of which he has spoken takes place, and he says, &#8220;Let us follow other gods&#8221; (gods you have not known) &#8220;and let us worship them,&#8221;<br \/>\n3\u00a0\u00a0you must not listen to the words of that prophet or dreamer.
