{"id":22502,"date":"2022-07-19T22:00:43","date_gmt":"2022-07-20T05:00:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/deuteronomy_22_13-30-copy\/"},"modified":"2022-07-12T16:32:56","modified_gmt":"2022-07-12T23:32:56","slug":"deuteronomy_23_1-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/deuteronomy_23_1-14\/","title":{"rendered":"You Are Worthy Because of Jesus"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>Deuteronomy23:1-14\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy+23%3A1-14&amp;version=NIV\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22504 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/22-0720.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/22-0720.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/07\/22-0720-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Deuteronomy 23:1-14.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Deuteronomy 23:1-3 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0No one who has been emasculated by crushing or cutting may enter the assembly of the\u00a0LORD.<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0No one born of a forbidden marriage nor any of his descendants may enter the assembly of the\u00a0LORD, even down to the tenth generation.<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0No Ammonite or Moabite or any of his descendants may enter the assembly of the\u00a0LORD, even down to the tenth generation.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses\u00a01-3: \u00a0Moses lists different conditions that would disqualify a person from entering the assembly where people worship God.\u00a0 Notice that all these conditions were things that were generally beyond a person&#8217;s control &#8212; if a man&#8217;s genitals were mutilated (v1), or he was born out of wedlock (v2), or he was an Ammonite or Moabite (v3-5).\u00a0 Similarly, the Bible says that all of us have a condition that disqualifies us from God&#8217;s presence: our sin (see Romans 3:9 and Isaiah 59:2). \u00a0 But praise God that in love He sent Jesus Christ to die on the cross to pay the price for all our sins. \u00a0<strong>Because of Jesus, regardless of our backgrounds or past history we all are invited to draw near to God.\u00a0 All because Jesus&#8217; blood cleanses us of our sin, we are qualified to enter God&#8217;s presence and worship with His people.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Deuteronomy 23:4-9 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For they did not come to meet you with bread and water on your way when you came out of Egypt, and they hired Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram Naharaim to pronounce a curse on you.<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0However, the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God would not listen to Balaam but turned the curse into a blessing for you, because the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God loves you.<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Do not seek a treaty of friendship with them as long as you live.<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Do not abhor an Edomite, for he is your brother. Do not abhor an Egyptian, because you lived as an alien in his country.<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The third generation of children born to them may enter the assembly of the\u00a0LORD.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 3-8: \u00a0Moses told the Jews that they should not associate with Ammonites or Moabites because of the way they treated the Jews (v4-6).\u00a0 He also tells them to have compassion toward Edomites and Egyptians because of their previous relationships with them (v7-8).\u00a0 In other words, Moses gave the Jewish people reasons to associate or not associate with certain people based on their ethnicity.\u00a0 But everything changed when Jesus came.\u00a0 Jesus shed His blood on the cross for all people and all nations.\u00a0 In doing so, Jesus not only reconciled us to God but gave reason for nations who used to be enemies to reconcile with one another.\u00a0 As Paul says in\u00a0Ephesians 2:14, &#8220;For he (Jesus) is our peace, who has made the two one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility&#8221;. \u00a0\u00a0<strong>Praise God that because of Jesus, we not only can we live at peace vertically with God but horizontally with our enemies as well.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Deuteronomy 23:9-14 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When you are encamped against your enemies, keep away from everything impure.<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0If one of your men is unclean because of a nocturnal emission, he is to go outside the camp and stay there.<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But as evening approaches he is to wash himself, and at sunset he may return to the camp.<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Designate a place outside the camp where you can go to relieve yourself.<br \/>\n<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0As part of your equipment have something to dig with, and when you relieve yourself, dig a hole and cover up your excrement.<br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God moves about in your camp to protect you and to deliver your enemies to you.
