{"id":22709,"date":"2022-08-05T22:00:22","date_gmt":"2022-08-06T05:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/deuteronomy28_58-68-copy\/"},"modified":"2022-07-26T15:18:14","modified_gmt":"2022-07-26T22:18:14","slug":"deuteronomy29_1-15","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/deuteronomy29_1-15\/","title":{"rendered":"Don\u2019t Harden Your Heart"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>Deuteronomy 29:1-15 \u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy+29%3A1-15&amp;version=NIV\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-22711 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/22-0806.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/22-0806.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/08\/22-0806-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Deuteronomy 29:1-15.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deuteronomy 29:1-4 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0These are the terms of the covenant the\u00a0LORD\u00a0commanded Moses to make with the Israelites in Moab, in addition to the covenant he had made with them at Horeb.<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Moses summoned all the Israelites and said to them: Your eyes have seen all that the\u00a0LORD\u00a0did in Egypt to Pharaoh, to all his officials and to all his land.<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0With your own eyes you saw those great trials, those miraculous signs and great wonders.<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But to this day the\u00a0LORD\u00a0has not given you a mind that understands or eyes that see or ears that hear.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-4: \u00a0The Israelites had witnessed some of the most incredible miracles ever recorded (v2-3).\u00a0 Yet after all that God had done for them, Moses says that the Israelites still could not understand, see or hear God in their lives.\u00a0 Instead, they often fell back in unbelief and rebellion.\u00a0 Why is that?\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t a problem with their minds, eyes or ears.\u00a0 It wasn&#8217;t a problem with God.\u00a0 It was a heart problem.\u00a0 Their hearts remained hard toward God.<\/p>\n<p>It reminds me of something Jesus once said:<\/p>\n<p><sup>&#8220;<\/sup>For this people&#8217;s heart has become calloused; they hardly hear with their ears, and they have closed their eyes. Otherwise they might see with their eyes, hear with their ears, understand with their hearts and turn, and I would heal them.&#8217; But blessed are your eyes because they see, and your ears because they hear.&#8221; (Matthew 13:15-16)<\/p>\n<p>In other words,\u00a0<strong>how much we hear with our ears and see with our eyes depends on the condition of our hearts<\/strong>.\u00a0 If you have an open, humble and hungry heart toward God, you\u2019ll be on your way to understanding, seeing and hearing from God.\u00a0 But if your heart is closed and prideful, not even the most amazing miracles will move you and you&#8217;ll be quick to rationalize anything that God does with some other explanation.\u00a0 That&#8217;s why Hebrews 3:15 says, &#8220;Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts as you did in the rebellion.&#8221; \u00a0<strong>So let\u2019s be careful to monitor the condition of our hearts and keep a soft heart toward God<\/strong>, for your heart is the wellspring of life (Proverbs 4:23).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deuteronomy<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>29<\/strong><strong>:5-8 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0During the forty years that I led you through the desert, your clothes did not wear out, nor did the sandals on your feet.<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You ate no bread and drank no wine or other fermented drink. I did this so that you might know that I am the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God.<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When you reached this place, Sihon king of Heshbon and Og king of Bashan came out to fight against us, but we defeated them.<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0We took their land and gave it as an inheritance to the Reubenites, the Gadites and the half-tribe of Manasseh.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 5-8: \u00a0Despite the Israelites\u2019 faithlessness, God continued to be faithful to the Israelites, providing for their needs so that they never lacked a thing (v5) and giving them victories over their enemies (v6-8).\u00a0 God is the same way with us.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Even when we are faithless, God still remains faithful (2 Timothy 2:13).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Deuteronomy<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>29<\/strong><strong>:9 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>Carefully follow the terms of this covenant, so that you may prosper in everything you do.<\/p>\n<p>On verse 9: \u00a0Here Moses restates the purpose of God&#8217;s commands.\u00a0 God&#8217;s commands were given so that &#8220;you may prosper in everything you do&#8221; (v9) &#8212; in your relationships, your business, your studies, your ministry, your health, and everything you put your hand to.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>God&#8217;s commands are not a straight jacket, but a recipe for our success.<\/strong>\u00a0 Follow God&#8217;s Word and you will be successful.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Deuteronomy<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>29<\/strong><strong>:10-15 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0All of you are standing today in the presence of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God&#8211;your leaders and chief men, your elders and officials, and all the other men of Israel,<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0together with your children and your wives, and the aliens living in your camps who chop your wood and carry your water.<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You are standing here in order to enter into a covenant with the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God, a covenant the\u00a0LORD\u00a0is making with you this day and sealing with an oath,<br \/>\n<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0to confirm you this day as his people, that he may be your God as he promised you and as he swore to your fathers, Abraham, Isaac and Jacob.<br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I am making this covenant, with its oath, not only with you<br \/>\n<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0who are standing here with us today in the presence of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0our God but also with those who are not here today.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 10-15:\u00a0 As Moses gets the Israelites ready to renew their covenant with God, Moses reminds them that Moses is making this covenant not only with the current generation of Israelites but with the generations that would come after them.\u00a0 God and Moses had a long term view in mind.\u00a0 Sometimes we can be so focused on today and tomorrow and next week, whereas God has His eyes on how today connects with what will happen generations from now.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Like God and Moses, may we too realize that the decisions we make and the seeds we sow today \u2013 whether for good or for bad \u2013 will have an impact long after we are gone.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Thank You Heavenly Father for every blessing You have placed in my life.\u00a0 May I never take You or those blessings for granted.\u00a0 May I always have a humble, hungry heart toward You and toward Your commands, which are for my success, knowing that the decisions I make and the seeds I sow today will have an impact on generations after me long after I am gone.\u00a0 In Jesus&#8217;
