Today\u2019s passage is Romans 1:18-23.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n

Romans 1:18-20 (NIV)<\/strong>
\n18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness,
\n19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
\n20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 18-20:\u00a0 What can we learn from these verses?\u00a0 First, it\u2019s that\u00a0God is holy, completely just and morally perfect, so much so that God\u2019s wrath goes out against anything that is godless, unjust or evil<\/strong>.\u00a0 God could not be loving or just if He didn\u2019t have wrath toward what is unloving or unjust.<\/p>\n

Second, it\u2019s that God has not been hiding Himself but has made His invisible qualities \u2013 such as His eternal power and divine nature \u2013 known through the visible universe.\u00a0 In other words,\u00a0when you observe the universe (\u201cwhat has been made\u201d), it is reasonable to conclude that the best explanation for it all is that an all-powerful, eternal God who exists outside of time and space caused it to come into being<\/strong>.\u00a0 For more on this, check out this message from our Overcome My Unbelief series:\u00a0How Do I Know That God Exists? In other words, we all have good reason to believe that there is a God (\u201cso that men are without excuse\u201d \u2013 v20).\u00a0 Whether we choose to believe or not is a different story.<\/p>\n

Romans 1:21-23 (NIV)<\/strong>
\n21\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
\n22\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools
\n23\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 21-23:\u00a0 To paraphrase Paul in these verses,\u00a0when we don\u2019t acknowledge God for who He is (when we don\u2019t glorify Him or thank Him \u2013 v21), two things happen<\/strong>.\u00a0 First, we start to think of ourselves as wise when actually we are thinking and acting like fools (v21-22).\u00a0 Second, we start to give up the glory of God in exchange for much lesser things like people and nature, thinking that that\u2019s all there is to life (v23).<\/p>\n

Father I pray that I would be careful to give You the credit and the attention that You are due, and not trade a life lived for Your glory for a life lived for much lesser things.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
