{"id":23897,"date":"2022-11-08T22:00:04","date_gmt":"2022-11-09T05:00:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/mark-1_21-28-copy\/"},"modified":"2022-10-25T20:37:38","modified_gmt":"2022-10-26T03:37:38","slug":"mark-1_29-39","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/mark-1_29-39\/","title":{"rendered":"Face Time with the Father"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>Mark 1:29-39 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark+1%3A29-39&amp;version=NIV\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-23899 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/22-1109.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/22-1109.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/22-1109-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Mark 1:29-39.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark 1:29-31 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>29\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew.<br \/>\n<sup>30\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Simon&#8217;s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told Jesus about her.<br \/>\n<sup>31\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up. The fever left her and she began to wait on them.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 29-31:\u00a0 In Mark 1:21-22, we saw Jesus\u2019 power to teach God\u2019s Word.\u00a0 In Mark 1:23-27 we saw Jesus\u2019 power to drive out evil spirits.\u00a0 Now in Mark 1:29-34 we see Jesus\u2019 power to heal the sick, beginning with Simon\u2019s mother-in-law.<\/p>\n<p>Notice how Simon\u2019s mother-in-law responded after Jesus healed her: \u201cshe began to wait on them\u201d (v31), that is, to serve Jesus and his team.\u00a0 The same should be our response to Jesus as well after we witness and experience Jesus\u2019 power in our lives.\u00a0 May we not be consumers who just keep wanting more and more things from Jesus, treating him like our servant.\u00a0 Rather,\u00a0<strong>like Peter\u2019s mother-in-law, may our response be to serve Jesus and His followers rather than always wanting to be served<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark 1:32-34 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>32\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0That evening after sunset the people brought to Jesus all the sick and demon-possessed.<br \/>\n<sup>33\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The whole town gathered at the door,<br \/>\n<sup>34\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and Jesus healed many who had various diseases.\u00a0 He also drove out many demons, but he would not let the demons speak because they knew who he was.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 32-34:\u00a0 Why wouldn\u2019t Jesus let the demons speak and tell everyone who he was?\u00a0 I believe there are at least two reasons for this.\u00a0 First, Jesus was focused on doing His Father\u2019s will and giving His Father glory (John 5:19).\u00a0 Jesus understood that there is a proper time and procedure for every matter (Ecclesiastes 8:6).\u00a0 So\u00a0<strong>Jesus refused to let His Father\u2019s agenda and timing be interrupted or compromised by evil spirits who didn\u2019t know any better.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Second, Jesus did not want to leave it to evil spirits to declare who Jesus is.\u00a0 That would give them too much credit.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Jesus wants to His own people who believe in Him to declare who He is.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark 1:35-37 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>35\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Very early in the morning, while it was still dark, Jesus got up, left the house and went off to a solitary place, where he prayed.<br \/>\n<sup>36\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Simon and his companions went to look for him,<br \/>\n<sup>37\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and when they found him, they exclaimed: &#8220;Everyone is looking for you!&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 35-37:\u00a0 Mark notes how Jesus would get up very early in the morning to pray by himself.\u00a0 Why would Jesus do that?<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ul dir=\"ltr\">\n<li>Keep in mind that Jesus, the Son of God, was accustomed to being in heaven with his Father.\u00a0 Heaven was where Jesus\u2019 home and family were.\u00a0 For all his time on earth, Jesus was doing long distance with his heavenly Father.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Missing his family in heaven, Jesus cherished the times when he could get some \u201cFacetime\u201d with his Father.<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>This time of prayer was Jesus\u2019 chance to unload his burdens, to think and plan through the upcoming day, and to remind himself as to why he was doing what he was doing.\u00a0<strong>Being in his Father\u2019s presence was Jesus\u2019 fuel and power for ministry.\u00a0<\/strong>&#8211;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Even with everyone clamoring for Jesus\u2019 attention, Jesus would still prioritize time to be with his Father.\u00a0 If Jesus needed to spend time with his Father and to be refreshed, renewed and refilled in His Father\u2019s presence, how much more do we need time in our Father\u2019s presence as well. Before we can wait on others and serve them well, we need to wait on God.\u00a0 For all these reasons,\u00a0<strong>like Jesus, make \u201cface time\u201d with the Father your priority<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark 1:38-39 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>38\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Jesus replied, &#8220;Let us go somewhere else&#8211;to the nearby villages&#8211;so I can preach there also. That is why I have come.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>39\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So he traveled throughout Galilee, preaching in their synagogues and driving out demons.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 38-39:\u00a0 \u201cThat is why I have come.\u201d\u00a0 Jesus was clear on his purpose, on why his Father had placed him on this earth.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Jesus would not let anything get in the way of the mission his Father had given him.\u00a0 Through Jesus and the Bible, we too can know our purpose.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>At Thrive Church we express our God-given purpose this way: you were made to worship Jesus (\u201cAlive\u201d), to grow more like Jesus (\u201cExpectant\u201d), to serve Jesus (\u201cInvolved\u201d), to lead others to Jesus (\u201cOut Loud\u201d), and to love God\u2019s family (\u201cUnited\u201d).\u00a0 \u00a0It\u2019s for these five purposes that God has placed you on this earth.\u00a0 It\u2019s your \u201ccalling\u201d.\u00a0 Now how we express this calling will depend on our unique God-given shape, but everything we ever do or aspire to be can be explained by one of these five purposes.\u00a0 May you live every day knowing clearly what your purpose is.<\/p>\n<p><em>Thank You Jesus that through You and Your Word, I can find healing, I can know what my purpose is, and I can draw near to the Father.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi GAMErs!\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Mark 1:29-39.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p>Mark 1:29-31 (NIV)<br \/>\n29\u00a0\u00a0As soon as they left the synagogue, they went with James and John to the home of Simon and Andrew.<br \/>\n30\u00a0\u00a0Simon&#8217;s mother-in-law was in bed with a fever, and they told Jesus about her.<br \/>\n31\u00a0\u00a0So he went to her, took her hand and helped her up.
