{"id":24077,"date":"2022-11-25T22:00:17","date_gmt":"2022-11-26T05:00:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/mark-5_21-34-copy\/"},"modified":"2022-11-08T14:27:25","modified_gmt":"2022-11-08T21:27:25","slug":"mark-5_35-43","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/mark-5_35-43\/","title":{"rendered":"Who Will You Listen To and Who Will You Ignore"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>Mark 5:35-43 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark+5%3A35-43&amp;version=NIV\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24075 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/22-1125.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/22-1125.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/11\/22-1125-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Mark 5:35-43.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark 5:35 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>35\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0While Jesus was still speaking, some men came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. &#8220;Your daughter is dead,&#8221; they said. &#8220;Why bother the teacher any more?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 35:\u00a0 For everyone else in Jairus\u2019 home, death meant the end, nothing more that can be done.\u00a0 But for Jesus, when someone dies, that\u2019s when his work is only just beginning.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark 5:36-37 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>36\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Ignoring what they said, Jesus told the synagogue ruler, &#8220;Don&#8217;t be afraid; just believe.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>37\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He did not let anyone follow him except Peter, James and John the brother of James.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 36-37:\u00a0 Here Jesus models this important truth:\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Who you let you in and who you keep out is crucial to your destiny.\u00a0 That is, who you choose to listen to and who choose you ignore will determine your direction in life.<\/strong>\u00a0 More on this in just a bit.\u00a0 First look at verses 38-40.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark 5:38-49 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>38\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When they came to the home of the synagogue ruler, Jesus saw a commotion, with people crying and wailing loudly.<br \/>\n<sup>39\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He went in and said to them, &#8220;Why all this commotion and wailing? The child is not dead but asleep.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>40\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But they laughed at him. After he put them all out, he took the child&#8217;s father and mother and the disciples who were with him, and went in where the child was.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 38-40:\u00a0 Why did Jesus kick everyone out of the room except the child\u2019s father and mother and the disciples?\u00a0 It\u2019s for the same reason that Jesus ignored Jairus\u2019 friends when they said, \u201cYour daughter is dead.\u00a0 Why bother the teacher anymore? (v35).\u00a0\u00a0<strong>It\u2019s because God likes to hang out with people that have faith.\u00a0 God\u2019s ideal work environment is an environment infused with faith.\u00a0 We cramp God\u2019s style when we have no faith (see, for example, Matthew 13:58).\u00a0 In order for God to do His best work, it means ignoring and setting boundaries around those who are stuck in unbelief, fear and negativity so that they don\u2019t affect your ability to move forward.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Sometimes we need to do the same.\u00a0 When you\u2019re pursuing a big dream for God\u2019s glory, you can\u2019t be hanging around faithless, negative people all the time.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>To be at your best and to do your best work, sometimes you need to ignore and set boundaries around those whose words are habitually unbelieving, fearful and negative.<\/strong>\u00a0 Surround yourself instead with people of faith \u2013 not people who always agree with what you think \u2013 but people who are aligned with you in terms of vision, direction, values and faith.\u00a0 That\u2019s when great things can happen.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Mark 5:41-43 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>41\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He took her by the hand and said to her,\u00a0&#8220;Talitha koum!&#8221;\u00a0(which means, &#8220;Little girl, I say to you, get up!&#8221;).<br \/>\n<sup>42\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Immediately the girl stood up and walked around (she was twelve years old). At this they were completely astonished.<br \/>\n<sup>43\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He gave strict orders not to let anyone know about this, and told them to give her something to eat.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 41-43:\u00a0 This incredible miracle from Jesus reminds me of a favourite quote from C.S.
