{"id":24859,"date":"2023-01-17T22:00:09","date_gmt":"2023-01-18T05:00:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/mark-15_42-47-copy\/"},"modified":"2023-01-10T21:31:34","modified_gmt":"2023-01-11T04:31:34","slug":"mark-16_1-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/mark-16_1-11\/","title":{"rendered":"Take Jesus at His Word"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>Mark 16:1-11 \u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Mark+16%3A1-11&amp;version=NIV\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-24861 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/23-0118.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/23-0118.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/23-0118-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Mark 16:1-11.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Mark 16:1-3 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus&#8217; body.<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Very early on the first day of the week, just after sunrise, they were on their way to the tomb<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and they asked each other, &#8220;Who will roll the stone away from the entrance of the tomb?&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-3:\u00a0 In accordance with Jewish custom, Mary Magdalene, Mary and Salome brought spices to Jesus\u2019 tomb, hoping to pour the spices on Jesus\u2019 body, both as a sign of love and to counteract any odor.\u00a0 In other words, they all fully expected Jesus to be dead.\u00a0 Little did they know that they and Jesus wouldn\u2019t need the spices after all.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Mark 16:4-7 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But when they looked up, they saw that the stone, which was very large, had been rolled away.<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0As they entered the tomb, they saw a young man dressed in a white robe sitting on the right side, and they were alarmed.<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;Don&#8217;t be alarmed,&#8221; he said. &#8220;You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene, who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But go, tell his disciples and Peter, &#8216;He is going ahead of you into Galilee. There you will see him, just as he told you.'&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 4-7:\u00a0 The angel instructs the women to tell the disciples\u00a0<em>and Peter\u00a0<\/em>specifically (v7) that Jesus is risen.\u00a0\u00a0 Evidently heaven had not given up on Peter even after Peter had disowned Jesus and experienced his biggest failure.\u00a0 Praise God that\u00a0<strong>even when we fail, God doesn\u2019t quit on us.\u00a0 He keeps believing in us and pursuing us because He loves us.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Mark 16:8-9 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Trembling and bewildered, the women went out and fled from the tomb. They said nothing to anyone, because they were afraid.<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When Jesus rose early on the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had driven seven demons.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 8-9:\u00a0 Notice who Jesus appeared to first.\u00a0 The one who wanted to see him the most.\u00a0 Mary Magdalene was among the women who very early on the first day of the week, right after the Sabbath was over, went to Jesus\u2019 tomb to see him.<\/p>\n<p>First, consider this awesome fact: \u00a0Jesus rose from death and appeared alive to people!\u00a0 We\u2019ll unpack the significance of Jesus\u2019 resurrection in verses 12-20 tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p>Second, I believe there is a spiritual lesson here for us today:\u00a0<strong>Jesus loves to show up in the lives of those who go out of their way to see Him.\u00a0 If you\u2019re not looking for Jesus, chances are you\u2019ll find Him less frequently and much later than those whose hearts are set on Him and who are eager to meet Him.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Mark 16:10-11 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0She went and told those who had been with him and who were mourning and weeping.<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When they heard that Jesus was alive and that she had seen him, they did not believe it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 10-11:\u00a0 Jesus had repeatedly told his disciples that he would suffer, be killed and then rise again on the third day (e.g. Mark 8:31-32; Mark 10:34).\u00a0 Yet the disciples were slow to believe Jesus\u2019 words.\u00a0 When he was alive, the disciples were slow to believe that Jesus would ever be killed.\u00a0 When he died, the disciples were slow to believe that Jesus would rise again.\u00a0 And when Mary Magdalene tells the disciples that Jesus is alive and had seen him, they still refused to believe.\u00a0 You could say that the disciples\u2019 faith was based far more on their present circumstances than on Jesus\u2019 word.<\/p>\n<p>How about you and me?\u00a0 When our circumstances or feelings tell us otherwise, will we still believe what Jesus says?\u00a0 Do we place our faith in our circumstances and feelings or in Jesus\u2019 word?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Blessed are those who take Jesus at His word, who put more stock in what Jesus says than in what their present circumstances suggest.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Jesus, thank You that heaven does not quit on us so easily, even when we fail to take You at Your Word.\u00a0 Thank You that You show up in the lives of those who are intent on seeking You.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Mark 16:1-11.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p>Mark 16:1-3 (NIV)<br \/>\n1\u00a0\u00a0When the Sabbath was over, Mary Magdalene, Mary the mother of James, and Salome bought spices so that they might go to anoint Jesus&#8217;
