{"id":25080,"date":"2023-01-31T22:00:34","date_gmt":"2023-02-01T05:00:34","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/isaiah-1_21-31-copy\/"},"modified":"2023-01-26T00:17:16","modified_gmt":"2023-01-26T07:17:16","slug":"isaiah-2_1-5","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/isaiah-2_1-5\/","title":{"rendered":"Welcome to the Mountain of God"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>Isaiah 2:1-5\u00a0 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Isaiah+2%3A1-5&amp;version=NIV\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-25082 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/23-0201.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/23-0201.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/01\/23-0201-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Isaiah 2:1-5.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Isaiah 2:1-2 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0In the last days the mountain of the\u00a0LORD&#8217;s temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-2:\u00a0 Isaiah foresees the day when the worship of the LORD will be the most prominent movement in the world (\u201cchief among the mountains\u201d \u2013 v2), when the church grows from a small, miniscule, inconspicuous mustard seed of a faith to the largest force in the world that no one can ignore, and people from all nations will be a part of it.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Isaiah 2:3-5 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Many peoples will come and say, &#8220;Come, let us go up to the mountain of the\u00a0LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.&#8221; The law will go out from Zion, the word of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0from Jerusalem.<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many peoples. They will beat their swords into plowshares and their spears into pruning hooks. Nation will not take up sword against nation, nor will they train for war anymore.<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Come, O house of Jacob, let us walk in the light of the\u00a0LORD.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 3-5:\u00a0 What time in history is Isaiah talking about when he talks about the mountain of the Lord being established as chief among the mountains?\u00a0 Some think that time has already come, or has passed.\u00a0 Others think this is some future event.\u00a0 Others still suggest that Isaiah did not have a particular event in mind.<\/p>\n<p>I believe this time is still to come.\u00a0 After all, verse 2 says \u201cin the last days\u201d.\u00a0 I believe that the greatest churches have yet to be built, the greatest worship has yet to be given.\u00a0 But we\u2019re on our way there.\u00a0 When it comes to God\u2019s church and God\u2019s worship, the best is yet to come.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, verses 2-4 are almost identical to Micah 4:1-3.\u00a0 Why is that?\u00a0 One theory is that Micah and Isaiah were referencing something that already existed and that people were already aware of.\u00a0 However, since Isaiah specifically says that this was the vision that he saw, another possible explanation is that Isaiah first wrong down this vision, and then Micah refers to it in his book later.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from these verses?<\/p>\n<p>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0When you \u201cgo up to the mountain of the Lord\u201d (i.e. when you go out of your way to be in God\u2019s presence), you give God room to teach you His ways (v3).<\/p>\n<p>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u201cCome,\u00a0<em>let us<\/em>\u00a0go up to the mountain of the Lord\u201d (v3) suggests that getting to know is a communal thing, not a strictly private individual thing.\u00a0 You were made to draw near to God together with your church family.<\/p>\n<p>3.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The mountain of the Lord\u2019s temple, which represents the worship of God, was always meant to be the chief mountain in our lives.\u00a0 Let\u2019s make God and our worship of Him our number one concern, our \u201cchief mountain\u201d.\u00a0 For when we seek the mountain of God\u2019s kingdom first, problems and concerns (other mountains) don\u2019t seem so scary anymore, and God adds to us everything we need.<\/p>\n<p>4.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0God\u2019s purpose for learning God\u2019s Word is living God\u2019s Word.\u00a0 Notice it says in verse 3 \u201cHe will teach us his ways,\u00a0SO THAT we may walk in his paths\u201d.\u00a0 In other words, when your heart is right, you want to learn God\u2019s Word not simply for the sake of academic knowledge or curiosity, but \u201cSO THAT we may walk in his paths\u201d, i.e. we learn God\u2019s Word so that we can know, love and follow God better.<\/p>\n<p>5.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0God\u2019s kingdom was meant to include people from every nation.\u00a0 There is no room for racism in the kingdom of God, for people from every culture, language, tribe, race and ethnicity are invited, welcomed and included.<\/p>\n<p>6.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0God\u2019s heart is not for war but for peace.\u00a0 The effect of letting God\u2019s Word fill us is that we strive for peace and fight for peace (v4), not launching ourselves into conflict unnecessarily.\u00a0 Verse 4 paints the picture of one day all nations living peacefully under God\u2019s rule.<\/p>\n<p>7.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0By this point Judah was greatly outsized by other much more powerful nations, like Assyria.\u00a0 So it must have seemed to some an arrogant and unrealistic assertion for Isaiah to claim that one day all nations will turn to the Lord.\u00a0 That claim is just as politically incorrect today, but that\u2019s the truth of God\u2019s Word.\u00a0 For more on this, check out the message \u201cHow can Jesus be the only way to God?\u201d from our Overcome My Unbelief series.<\/p>\n<p><em>Thank You Jesus that one day people from every nation and culture will bow their knees and confess that You are Lord.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Isaiah 2:1-5.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p>Isaiah 2:1-2 (NIV)<br \/>\n1\u00a0\u00a0This is what Isaiah son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem:<br \/>\n2\u00a0\u00a0In the last days the mountain of the\u00a0LORD&#8217;s temple will be established as chief among the mountains;
