{"id":2562,"date":"2019-03-31T21:10:17","date_gmt":"2019-04-01T04:10:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/?p=2562"},"modified":"2019-03-31T21:10:49","modified_gmt":"2019-04-01T04:10:49","slug":"1kings_15_25-34","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/1kings_15_25-34\/","title":{"rendered":"Don&#8217;t Get Blindsided by an Inside Job"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p>1 Kings 15:25-34 \u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Kings+15%3A25-34&amp;version=NIV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Click here for Bible Verses<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-2563 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/190401.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/190401.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/190401-300x150.jpg 300w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/190401-450x225.jpg 450w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs,<\/p>\n<p>Today&#8217;s passage is 1 Kings 15:25-34.\u00a0 Don&#8217;t Get Blindsided by an Inside Job + How Do You Want God to use Your Life<br \/>\nLet&#8217;s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Kings 15:25-28 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">25\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Nadab son of Jeroboam became king of Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah, and he reigned over Israel two years.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">26\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, walking in the ways of his father and in his sin, which he had caused Israel to commit.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">27\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Baasha son of Ahijah of the house of Issachar plotted against him, and he struck him down at Gibbethon, a Philistine town, while Nadab and all Israel were besieging it.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">28\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>Baasha killed Nadab in the third year of Asa king of Judah and succeeded him as king.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 25-28:\u00a0 These verses summarize the short 2 year reign of Nadab king of Israel.\u00a0 The writer of 1 Kings does not find anything noteworthy about Nadab except two things.\u00a0 First is how Nadab followed his father Jeroboam in worshiping idols and doing evil in God&#8217;s sight.\u00a0 Second is the way Nadab died: while Nadab is in foreign territory trying to capture the Philistian city of Gibbethon, another unsuspecting enemy &#8212; in this case, Baasha, an Israelite and a member of Nadab&#8217;s own kingdom &#8212; strikes Nadab down and becomes the new king of Israel.<\/p>\n<p>In other words, what killed Nadab was not the foreign powers he was trying to conquer.\u00a0 Rather, Nadab&#8217;s killer came from within Nadab&#8217;s own kingdom.\u00a0 Nadab was effectively blindsided by an inside job.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0<strong>Take good care of your own house before you seek to take over more foreign territory.\u00a0<\/strong>\u00a0In addition to protecting your home, marriage, family and life from outside attack, and in addition to expanding your business, ministry, or family into new territory, be vigilant in making sure that life within your borders &#8212; that is, your life at home, your marriage, your family &#8212; is peaceful, strong and undivided.\u00a0 Otherwise, like Nadab, you might get blindsided by an inside job as well.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>1 Kings 15:29-34 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">29\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>As soon as he began to reign, he killed Jeroboam&#8217;s whole family. He did not leave Jeroboam anyone that breathed, but destroyed them all, according to the word of the LORD given through his servant Ahijah the Shilonite&#8211;<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">30\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>because of the sins Jeroboam had committed and had caused Israel to commit, and because he provoked the LORD, the God of Israel, to anger.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">31\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>As for the other events of Nadab&#8217;s reign, and all he did, are they not written in the book of the annals of the kings of Israel?<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">32\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>There was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel throughout their reigns.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">33\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>In the third year of Asa king of Judah, Baasha son of Ahijah became king of all Israel in Tirzah, and he reigned twenty-four years.<br \/>\n<sup><span style=\"color: #000000;\">34\u00a0<\/span><\/sup>He did evil in the eyes of the LORD, walking in the ways of Jeroboam and in his sin, which he had caused Israel to commit.\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 29-34:\u00a0 As the new king of Israel, Baasha kills Jeroboam&#8217;s entire family.\u00a0 Baasha probably did it not because he was trying to fulfill any prophecy, or because he believed he was on a mission from God.\u00a0 Rather, Baasha did it because he wanted to eliminate any possible threats to his newly acquired throne and remove any possibility of Nadab&#8217;s relatives avenging Nadab&#8217;s death.\u00a0 But God uses Baasha in these circumstances nevertheless to fulfill His own promise which He made in 1 Kings\u00a014:10, which was to cut off the house of Jeroboam.<\/p>\n<p>Baasha would reign over Israel for 24 years.\u00a0 While Baasha was the instrument for bringing Nadab down for his sin of idolatry, Baasha himself would ironically follow in Nadab&#8217;s footsteps by committing the very same sins.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>God will find a way to use you for His purposes no matter what, whether you&#8217;re conscious of it or not<\/strong>, whether you have a heart for God or not.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>But whether you are just a dispensable blunt instrument in God&#8217;s hands, or an indispensable child close to His heart, all depends on how you respond to God.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If will you humble yourself before God and look to Him for salvation and ongoing help, you will have an intimate relationship with God in addition to being used greatly by Him.\u00a0 But if you don&#8217;t humble yourself before God and instead trust in yourself, God will still somehow find a way to use your life to accomplish His purposes, but only indirectly and minimally &#8212; not nearly to the extent or in the glorious way He originally intended &#8212; and you will miss out on the number one reason God made you: to know God and to have a relationship with Him.\u00a0 So don&#8217;t just be used by God; seek a close relationship with Him and be used even more greatly by Him.<\/p>\n<p><em>Heavenly Father, I don&#8217;t just want to be a blunt instrument that is used for Your purposes in a minimal, indirect way.\u00a0 I want to be close to You and to be used by You greatly.\u00a0 Please protect my home, family, church, and life from all harm.\u00a0 May each of them be strong, undivided and fully united for Your glory, so that we can take over more territory in Your name and for Your glory.\u00a0 In Jesus&#8217;
