Clothe yourself with strength, O arm of the\u00a0LORD; awake, as in days gone by, as in generations of old. Was it not you who cut Rahab to pieces, who pierced that monster through?<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Was it not you who dried up the sea, the waters of the great deep, who made a road in the depths of the sea so that the redeemed might cross over?<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The ransomed of the\u00a0LORD\u00a0will return. They will enter Zion with singing; everlasting joy will crown their heads. Gladness and joy will overtake them, and sorrow and sighing will flee away.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Whereas 50:1-8 was the Servant speaking, at verse 9 it seems that it is no longer the Servant speaking but someone else.\u00a0 Who is it?\u00a0 It is not entirely clear.\u00a0 One possibility is that it is God\u2019s people who are complaining to God in verses 9-10.\u00a0 Though their complaint may not be as intense as we heard it in 49:14, they recall (as in other times in Isaiah) how the LORD had previously had made a way for His people through the sea and wonder when He will act this way again. \u00a0In response to such questions, verse 11 reassures God\u2019s people that they will return and rejoice in the end.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Just as the LORD had done great things for His people in the past, so with God the final story is always that His joy replaces our sorrow, that singing will replace our weeping.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Isaiah 51:12-16 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0&#8220;I, even I, am he who comforts you. Who are you that you fear mortal men, the sons of men, who are but grass,<br \/>\n<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0that you forget the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your Maker, who stretched out the heavens and laid the foundations of the earth, that you live in constant terror every day because of the wrath of the oppressor, who is bent on destruction? For where is the wrath of the oppressor?<br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The cowering prisoners will soon be set free; they will not die in their dungeon, nor will they lack bread.<br \/>\n<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For I am the\u00a0LORD\u00a0your God, who churns up the sea so that its waves roar&#8211; the\u00a0LORD\u00a0Almighty is his name.<br \/>\n<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I have put my words in your mouth and covered you with the shadow of my hand&#8211; I who set the heavens in place, who laid the foundations of the earth, and who say to Zion, &#8216;You are my people.'&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 12-16:\u00a0 Here the LORD personally speaks to His people.\u00a0 What can we learn from these verses?<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0 He reiterates one of the ongoing themes in Isaiah:\u00a0<strong>do not fear mortal men, but fear the LORD\u00a0<\/strong>(v12-13).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0 God promises to release His people from captivity.\u00a0 In this case, the captivity that God is most concerned about here is people\u2019s captivity to sin and Satan.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>God\u2019s agenda is to set His people free from such captivity<\/strong>\u00a0(v14).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0<strong>God is sovereign over all of creation<\/strong>\u00a0(v15-16).<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0 God wants to have a relationship of belonging with us:\u00a0\u00a0<strong>He is the LORD\u00a0<em>our<\/em>\u00a0God (v15), and we are\u00a0<em>His<\/em>\u00a0people<\/strong>\u00a0<strong>(v16)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0 About His people, God says that He covers them with the shadow of His hand.\u00a0 \u201cShadow\u201d connotes protection.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>With the LORD in your life, you can live with confidence, knowing that you live under His protection\u00a0<\/strong>(v16).<\/p>\n<p><em>Thank You Father that I get to live under the shadow of Your hand, protected and secure.\u00a0 Because of that, thank You that I needn\u2019t fear what mortal men can do to me.\u00a0 Thank You that I belong to You and You belong to me and that with You is always the final victory.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Isaiah 50:4-51:8.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p>The previous passage, 49:14-50:3, dealt with three complaints that God and Isaiah expect the Jewish exiles to make in response to God\u2019s promise of deliverance.\u00a0 Having dealt with those complaints, Isaiah goes back to talking about the Servant again.<br \/>\n\u00a0<br \/>\nIsaiah 50:4 (NIV)<br \/>\n4\u00a0\u00a0The Sovereign\u00a0LORD\u00a0has given me an instructed tongue, to know the word that sustains the weary.
