I warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 19-21:\u00a0 Paul lists a number of examples of what it looks like when people live according to their sinful nature.\u00a0 These examples can possibly be broadly categorized as sexual sins (\u201csexual immorality, impurity [referring likely to an impure thought life] and debauchery\u201d), sins of the spirit (\u201cidolatry and witchcraft\u201d), sins related to poor management of our emotions and relationships (\u201chatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions\u201d) and other sins (\u201cdrunkenness, orgies and the like\u201d).\u00a0 When Paul says that \u201cthose who live like this will not inherit the kingdom of God\u201d (v21), he doesn\u2019t mean that if you engage in sin after being saved that such sin will automatically disqualify you from God\u2019s kingdom.\u00a0 Rather, Paul is likely saying that\u00a0<strong>those who live without any regard for holiness, who treat God\u2019s grace as an excuse to sin even more, have misunderstood the Gospel and were probably never saved in the first place<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Galatians 5:22-23 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness,<br \/>\n<sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 22-23:\u00a0 When the Holy Spirit is at work in our lives, we naturally bear the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. \u00a0\u00a0When Paul says \u201cagainst such things there is no law\u201d, he probably means just that: there is no law against living in love, joy, peace, patience, etc.\u00a0\u00a0I appreciate how\u00a0<strong>God seeks to limit what He knows will only destroy us (i.e. living according to the sinful nature) but He puts no cap on the fruit of the Spirit.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Galatians 5:24 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 24:\u00a0 What does Paul mean when he says that \u201cThose who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires\u201d (v24)?\u00a0 It means that those who have trusted in Jesus Christ should consider themselves already dead to sin because Christ died on the cross on our behalf and for our sins.\u00a0\u00a0<strong>We are to see ourselves no longer as slaves to our sinful nature, but as new creations in Christ.<\/strong>\u00a0 (see Romans 7:4-6)<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Galatians 5:25-26 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.<br \/>\n<sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Let us not become conceited, provoking and envying each other.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verse 25-26:\u00a0 We learned in looking at verse 16 that to live by the Spirit means to trust in God\u2019s power, not our own, and to rely on and surrender to the Holy Spirit.\u00a0 In verse 25 Paul adds that we are to \u201ckeep in step with the Spirit\u201d, that is, to continue living with the Spirit and to be ready to go where the Holy Spirit leads.\u00a0 Putting verses 25-26 together, it\u2019s as if Paul\u2019s message is:\u00a0<strong>we can either be full of the Spirit or full of ourselves<\/strong>.\u00a0 Which one will you choose to be full of \u2013 God\u2019s Spirit or yourself?<\/p>\n<p><em>Holy Spirit, please fill me today to overflowing, that I would overflow with love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div><\/section><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is Galatians 5:19-26.\u00a0 Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p>Galatians 5:19-21 (NIV)<br \/>\n19\u00a0\u00a0The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery;<br \/>\n20\u00a0\u00a0idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions<br \/>\n21\u00a0\u00a0and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like.
