The camp of Midian was north of them in the valley near the hill of Moreh.<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The\u00a0LORD\u00a0said to Gideon, &#8220;You have too many men for me to deliver Midian into their hands. In order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her,<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0announce now to the people, &#8216;Anyone who trembles with fear may turn back and leave Mount Gilead.'&#8221; So twenty-two thousand men left, while ten thousand remained.<br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But the\u00a0LORD\u00a0said to Gideon, &#8220;There are still too many men. Take them down to the water, and I will sift them for you there. If I say, &#8216;This one shall go with you,&#8217; he shall go; but if I say, &#8216;This one shall not go with you,&#8217; he shall not go.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So Gideon took the men down to the water. There the\u00a0LORD\u00a0told him, &#8220;Separate those who lap the water with their tongues like a dog from those who kneel down to drink.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Three hundred men lapped with their hands to their mouths. All the rest got down on their knees to drink.<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The\u00a0LORD\u00a0said to Gideon, &#8220;With the three hundred men that lapped I will save you and give the Midianites into your hands. Let all the other men go, each to his own place.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So Gideon sent the rest of the Israelites to their tents but kept the three hundred, who took over the provisions and trumpets of the others\u2026<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 1-8:\u00a0 God intentionally whittles down the Israelite army from 32,000 to 300.\u00a0 Why?\u00a0 God explains it Himself in verse 2: \u201cIn order that Israel may not boast against me that her own strength has saved her\u201d.\u00a0 God wanted the Israelites to know that it was not their own strength that rescued them but God. \u00a0<strong>So when you are faced with limited resources and wonder why God does not give you more for the moment, remember that God loves to show His power through our limitations.<\/strong>\u00a0 God loves to take those who are in the minority and do something powerful with them.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Judges 7:8b-12 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>8<\/sup>\u2026Now the camp of Midian lay below him in the valley.<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0During that night the\u00a0LORD\u00a0said to Gideon, &#8220;Get up, go down against the camp, because I am going to give it into your hands.<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0If you are afraid to attack, go down to the camp with your servant Purah<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0and listen to what they are saying. Afterward, you will be encouraged to attack the camp.&#8221; So he and Purah his servant went down to the outposts of the camp.<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The Midianites, the Amalekites and all the other eastern peoples had settled in the valley, thick as locusts. Their camels could no more be counted than the sand on the seashore.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 8-12:\u00a0 We\u2019ll cover these verses tomorrow as part of our look at Judges 7:13-25.<\/p>\n<p><em>Thank You Father that whenever I am faced with limited resources, it\u2019s because You want to display Your power through my limitations, to show that it was not by our own strength but Your strength that we gained the victory.
