Today\u2019s passage is Judges 11:12-27.\u00a0 Let’s go!<\/p>\n

Judges 11:12-27 (NIV)<\/strong>
\n12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then Jephthah sent messengers to the Ammonite king with the question: “What do you have against us that you have attacked our country?”
\n13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The king of the Ammonites answered Jephthah’s messengers, “When Israel came up out of Egypt, they took away my land from the Arnon to the Jabbok, all the way to the Jordan. Now give it back peaceably.”
\n14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Jephthah sent back messengers to the Ammonite king,
\n15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0saying: “This is what Jephthah says: Israel did not take the land of Moab or the land of the Ammonites.
\n16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But when they came up out of Egypt, Israel went through the desert to the Red Sea and on to Kadesh.
\n17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then Israel sent messengers to the king of Edom, saying, ‘Give us permission to go through your country,’ but the king of Edom would not listen. They sent also to the king of Moab, and he refused. So Israel stayed at Kadesh.
\n18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“Next they traveled through the desert, skirted the lands of Edom and Moab, passed along the eastern side of the country of Moab, and camped on the other side of the Arnon. They did not enter the territory of Moab, for the Arnon was its border.
\n19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“Then Israel sent messengers to Sihon king of the Amorites, who ruled in Heshbon, and said to him, ‘Let us pass through your country to our own place.’
\n20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Sihon, however, did not trust Israel to pass through his territory. He mustered all his men and encamped at Jahaz and fought with Israel.
\n21\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“Then the\u00a0LORD, the God of Israel, gave Sihon and all his men into Israel’s hands, and they defeated them. Israel took over all the land of the Amorites who lived in that country,
\n22\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0capturing all of it from the Arnon to the Jabbok and from the desert to the Jordan.
\n23\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0“Now since the\u00a0LORD, the God of Israel, has driven the Amorites out before his people Israel, what right have you to take it over?
\n24\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Will you not take what your god Chemosh gives you? Likewise, whatever the\u00a0LORD\u00a0our God has given us, we will possess.
\n25\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Are you better than Balak son of Zippor, king of Moab? Did he ever quarrel with Israel or fight with them?
\n26\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For three hundred years Israel occupied Heshbon, Aroer, the surrounding settlements and all the towns along the Arnon. Why didn’t you retake them during that time?
\n27\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0I have not wronged you, but you are doing me wrong by waging war against me. Let the\u00a0LORD, the Judge, decide the dispute this day between the Israelites and the Ammonites.”<\/em><\/p>\n

On verses 12-27:\u00a0 Before going to war against the Ammonites, Jephthah tries to sort out the dispute peacefully with the king of the Ammonites.\u00a0 Jephthah sends correspondence to the king of the Ammonites in an effort to understand the situation and explain Israel\u2019s perspective.<\/p>\n

Before escalating a dispute and waging war against someone, make sure you understand the situation thoroughly and try to talk it out peacefully.\u00a0 As Proverbs 19:2 says, \u201cIt is not good to have zeal without knowledge, nor to be hasty and miss the way.\u201d<\/p>\n

Father, when there are tensions between me and others, I pray for the wisdom to understand the situation thoroughly and to sort things out peacefully as much as is possible.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n
