And a powerful king came against it, surrounded it and built huge siegeworks against it.<br \/>\n<sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Now there lived in that city a man poor but wise, and he saved the city by his wisdom. But nobody remembered that poor man.<br \/>\n<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So I said, &#8220;Wisdom is better than strength.&#8221; But the poor man&#8217;s wisdom is despised, and his words are no longer heeded.<br \/>\n<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The quiet words of the wise are more to be heeded than the shouts of a ruler of fools.<br \/>\n<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Wisdom is better than weapons of war, but one sinner destroys much good.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 13-18:\u00a0 Qohelet recounts this story of how a poor wise man saved his small town from a powerful king\u2019s invasion.\u00a0 The lesson here for us is:\u00a0 Wisdom can beat brute strength.\u00a0 Likewise, when we were being attacked by a more powerful enemy, in His wisdom Jesus became poor, lived among us in our town, and by His wisdom saved us.\u00a0 The gospel is the story of how Jesus, the wisdom of God, beat Satan\u2019s brute strength.<\/p>\n<p>Just as the poor man in Qohelet\u2019s story saved the city but was not remembered (v15), rather than being honoured and remembered by the people He came to save, Jesus is unfortunately often forgotten, despised and maligned in this world.\u00a0 What other name in the world is more maligned and misused as a curse word than the name of Jesus?\u00a0 Truly it is not what people in this world say about you or how much the world remembers you that determines your worth.\u00a0 It\u2019s what God says and what remembers about you that counts.<\/p>\n<p><em>Thank You Jesus for being the wise man who became poor so that You could save the rest of us from our enemy.\u00a0 May I not forget You or despise You, but may I remember what You did and honour You.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Copyright \u00a9 2021 Justin Lim.
