{"id":28763,"date":"2023-11-12T22:00:15","date_gmt":"2023-11-13T05:00:15","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/3-john-1_1-14-copy\/"},"modified":"2023-11-07T18:03:33","modified_gmt":"2023-11-08T01:03:33","slug":"hebrews-1_1-14","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/hebrews-1_1-14\/","title":{"rendered":"Jesus Is\u2026"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"flex_column av_one_full  flex_column_div av-zero-column-padding first  avia-builder-el-0  avia-builder-el-no-sibling  \" style='border-radius:0px; '><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>Hebrews 1:1-14 <\/strong>\u00a0 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews+1%3A1-14&amp;version=NIV\" rel=\"noopener\">(CLICK HERE FOR\u00a0BIBLE VERSES)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-28765 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/23-1113.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/23-1113.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/23-1113-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Today we begin the book of\u00a0Hebrews.\u00a0\u00a0It contains one of the Bible\u2019s most beautiful, thoughtful and thorough presentations of who Jesus is and what He has done.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Here is some background on the book of\u00a0Hebrews\u00a0that you may find helpful:<\/p>\n<p>&#8211;\u00a0 The book of\u00a0Hebrews\u00a0is known as the only truly anonymous book in the New Testament, as the author does not reveal his identity.\u00a0\u00a0Some have suggested that the apostle Paul wrote this book, although many scholars believe this is unlikely.\u00a0\u00a0For reasons that we won\u2019t get into now, it seems that a strong argument can be made that Luke, the one who wrote both the Gospel of Luke and Acts, was the one who authored this book.\u00a0\u00a0Whoever the author was, it is clear that the author knew Paul\u2019s disciple Timothy well (see 13:23).<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0 Many scholars agree that\u00a0Hebrews\u00a0was written in approximately 69 AD before the temple in Jerusalem was destroyed.\u00a0 Otherwise, the author would likely have mentioned this event when talking about how the old sacrificial system of the Jews had been replaced by a new system ushered by the blood of Jesus.<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0 The intended original readers of this book are also not known with certainty, although a good argument can be made that the writer of\u00a0Hebrews\u00a0wrote this book to Jewish believers or even Jewish priests who had converted to Christianity, to teach them the importance of who Jesus is and the difference Jesus makes in how we worship God.<\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is\u00a0Hebrews\u00a01:1-14.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Hebrews 1:1-3 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>1\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0In the past God spoke to our forefathers through the prophets at many times and in various ways,<br \/>\n<sup>2\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom he made the universe.<br \/>\n<sup>3\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0The Son is the radiance of God&#8217;s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word. After he had provided purification for sins, he sat down at the right hand of the Majesty in heaven.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses\u00a01-3:\u00a0\u00a0Chapters\u00a01\u00a0to 3 of the\u00a0Hebrews\u00a0speak about the greatness of Jesus.\u00a0\u00a0Here in just the first 3 verses of chapter\u00a01\u00a0alone we learn that:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<ol dir=\"ltr\">\n<li>Jesus is the one God uses to speak to us (v1-2).\u00a0\u00a0Above any prophet from the past, above creation, above our conscience and feelings, the clearest, strongest and most important revelation God has given us about Himself is through His Son Jesus.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is the heir of all things (v2).\u00a0\u00a0All things belong to Him.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is the one through whom the Father made the universe (v2).\u00a0\u00a0Jesus is the Creator.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is the radiance of God\u2019s glory (v3).\u00a0\u00a0No one radiates God\u2019s glory like Jesus does.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is the exact representation of God\u2019s being (v3).\u00a0\u00a0In other words, if you want to see what God is like, just look at Jesus.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is the one who sustains all things by His powerful word (v3).\u00a0\u00a0He is our Sustainer.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is the one who provided the way for us to be purified from our sins (v3).\u00a0\u00a0He is our Saviour.<\/li>\n<li>Jesus is the one who sits down at the right hand of the Father in heaven (v3). He is heaven\u2019s favoured son, the prince of peace.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><em><strong>Hebrews 1:4-14 (NIV)<\/strong><br \/>\n<sup>4\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0So he became as much superior to the angels as the name he has inherited is superior to theirs.<br \/>\n<sup>5\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For to which of the angels did God ever say, &#8220;You are my Son; today I have become your Father? Or again, &#8220;I will be his Father, and he will be my Son&#8221;?<br \/>\n<sup>6\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0And again, when God brings his firstborn into the world, he says, &#8220;Let all God&#8217;s angels worship him.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>7\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0In speaking of the angels he says, &#8220;He makes his angels winds, his servants flames of fire.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>8\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But about the Son he says, &#8220;Your throne, O God, will last for ever and ever, and righteousness will be the scepter of your kingdom.<br \/>\n<sup>9\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You have loved righteousness and hated wickedness; therefore God, your God, has set you above your companions by anointing you with the oil of joy.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>10\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He also says, &#8220;In the beginning, O Lord, you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.<br \/>\n<sup>11\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment.<br \/>\n<sup>12\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0You will roll them up like a robe; like a garment they will be changed. But you remain the same, and your years will never end.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>13\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0To which of the angels did God ever say, &#8220;Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet&#8221;?<br \/>\n<sup>14\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Are not all angels ministering spirits sent to serve those who will inherit salvation?<\/em>On verses 4-14:\u00a0\u00a0Here the writer of\u00a0Hebrews\u00a0shows how Jesus \u2013 both in essence and in name \u2013 is far greater than the angels.\u00a0\u00a0For example:<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0Whereas the angels are God\u2019s servants, Jesus is God\u2019s Son (v5)<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0Whereas the angels may be powerful (v7), they were made to worship Jesus (v6) who is king (v8-9), creator (v10), eternal (v11) and ageless (v12)<br \/>\n&#8211;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Whereas angels are sent to serve God\u2019s people (v14), God\u2019s people are commissioned to serve and worship Jesus (v13).<\/p>\n<p><em>Lord Jesus, no angel can compare to You in name, glory, majesty, beauty or power.\u00a0\u00a0Here on earth may I join the angels in heaven in giving You worship today.\u00a0\u00a0In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><em>Copyright \u00a9 2021 Justin Lim.
