'><section class=\"av_textblock_section \"  itemscope=\"itemscope\" itemtype=\"https:\/\/schema.org\/BlogPosting\" itemprop=\"blogPost\" ><div class='avia_textblock  '   itemprop=\"text\" ><p><strong>Hebrews 9:15-28 <\/strong>\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Hebrews+9%3A15-28&amp;version=NIV\" rel=\"noopener\">(CLICK HERE FOR\u00a0BIBLE VERSES)<\/a><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-28948 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/23-1130.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"600\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/23-1130.jpg 600w, https:\/\/ocbf.ca\/2019\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/23-1130-300x150.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hi GAMErs!<\/p>\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<div dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>Today\u2019s passage is\u00a0Hebrews\u00a09:15-28.\u00a0\u00a0Let\u2019s go!<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Hebrews 9:15-22 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>15\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For this reason Christ is the mediator of a new covenant, that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance&#8211;now that he has died as a ransom to set them free from the sins committed under the first covenant.<br \/>\n<sup>16\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0In the case of a will, it is necessary to prove the death of the one who made it,<br \/>\n<sup>17\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0because a will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living.<br \/>\n<sup>18\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0This is why even the first covenant was not put into effect without blood.<br \/>\n<sup>19\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0When Moses had proclaimed every commandment of the law to all the people, he took the blood of calves, together with water, scarlet wool and branches of hyssop, and sprinkled the scroll and all the people.<br \/>\n<sup>20\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0He said, &#8220;This is the blood of the covenant, which God has commanded you to keep.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>21\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0In the same way, he sprinkled with the blood both the tabernacle and everything used in its ceremonies.<br \/>\n<sup>22\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses\u00a015-22:\u00a0\u00a0During my time practicing law, clients would often ask me to help them write their will.\u00a0\u00a0A will is a legal document where a person spells out what they want to do with their assets and whom they want to gift those assets to as an inheritance when they die.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0The person making the will signs it in the presence of witnesses.\u00a0\u00a0All the gifts described in the will do not take effect until that person dies.\u00a0\u00a0That\u2019s why a will is often called a person\u2019s \u201clast will and testament\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0As verse 17 says, \u201ca will is in force only when somebody has died; it never takes effect while the one who made it is living.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Why is this important as we study\u00a0Hebrews\u00a09?\u00a0\u00a0It\u2019s because here the writer of\u00a0Hebrews\u00a0likens both the old covenant under Moses as well as the new covenant under Jesus to a will.\u00a0\u00a0Like a will, the old covenant and the new covenant were each a legal arrangement that described how God would give His inheritance (namely, forgiveness, acceptance, and great blessing) to His people.\u00a0\u00a0Like a will, the old covenant and the new covenant were made with witnesses.\u00a0\u00a0Just as a person\u2019s will is also called a person\u2019s last \u201ctestament\u201d, it is no coincidence that the Greek word for covenant is also sometimes translated \u201ctestament\u201d and thus in your Bible you have the Old Testament (containing the old covenant) and the New Testament (containing the new covenant).\u00a0\u00a0But, for the purposes of\u00a0Hebrews\u00a09, the most important similarity is that, like a will, someone had to die in order for the old covenant and new covenant to become effective.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0As verse 22 says, \u201cwithout the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness\u201d.\u00a0\u00a0In the case of the old covenant, it was the death of bulls and goats that put the old covenant into effect.\u00a0\u00a0In the case of the new covenant, it was the death of Jesus.<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from all this?\u00a0\u00a0<strong>The new covenant is Jesus\u2019 last will and testament.\u00a0\u00a0Jesus shed his blood and died so that we could enjoy the benefits of that new covenant.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Hebrews 9:23-28 (NIV)<\/em><\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>23\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0It was necessary, then, for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these sacrifices, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.<br \/>\n<sup>24\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0For Christ did not enter a man-made sanctuary that was only a copy of the true one; he entered heaven itself, now to appear for us in God&#8217;s presence.<br \/>\n<sup>25\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Nor did he enter heaven to offer himself again and again, the way the high priest enters the Most Holy Place every year with blood that is not his own.<br \/>\n<sup>26\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Then Christ would have had to suffer many times since the creation of the world. But now he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to do away with sin by the sacrifice of himself.<br \/>\n<sup>27\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment,<br \/>\n<sup>28\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 23-28:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0One of the big themes of\u00a0Hebrews\u00a0is that Jesus\u2019 sacrifice under the new covenant beats all the sacrifices ever made under the old covenant.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0Under the old covenant priests went into a man-made sanctuary and made sacrifices again and again for their sins and the people\u2019s sins (v24).\u00a0<strong>Under the new covenant, Jesus\u2019 sacrifice was so much more precious and powerful.\u00a0\u00a0He entered heaven and made a one-time sacrifice that was enough to bring forgiveness and cleansing once and for all (v24-28).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Father, I recognize today that without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.\u00a0\u00a0May I never take for granted the fact that Jesus died so that we could benefit under His new covenant.\u00a0\u00a0Because Jesus died, I now own an inheritance that rightfully and originally belonged to Him.\u00a0\u00a0Thank You, Lord Jesus, for shedding Your blood so that I could be forgiven and become a child of God with a glorious inheritance.\u00a0\u00a0In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<p><em>Copyright \u00a9 2021 Justin Lim.
