And if he shrinks back, I will not be pleased with him.&#8221;<br \/>\n<sup>39\u00a0<\/sup>\u00a0But we are not of those who shrink back and are destroyed, but of those who believe and are saved.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses\u00a032-39:\u00a0\u00a0Perseverance is a repeated theme in the book of Hebrews.\u00a0\u00a0To encourage the Christians he is writing to, the writer of\u00a0Hebrews\u00a0recalls the early days of their faith when they suffered much persecution, even having their property confiscated and going to prison for their faith.\u00a0\u00a0Apparently they did so joyfully because they knew that they \u201chad better and lasting possessions\u201d (v34).\u00a0\u00a0(It reminds me of that famous quote from missionary Jim Elliott who wrote, \u201cHe is no fool who loses what he cannot keep to gain what he cannot lose.\u201d)<\/p>\n<p>In a time when his readers were likely tempted to leave their faith or disconnect themselves from church, the writer of\u00a0Hebrews\u00a0encourages his readers not to throw away their confidence and urges them to persevere \u201cso that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what has been promised.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0(v36)<\/p>\n<p>What can we learn from this?\u00a0\u00a0 Remember that:<\/p>\n<p><strong>1.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0God reserves His greatest blessings for those who persevere.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>2.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0You can\u2019t accomplish anything great without persevering through some adversity, and sometimes lots of it.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>So if you\u2019re going through some adversity right now, don\u2019t give up.\u00a0\u00a0Persevere and hang onto your faith in Jesus.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Father, thank You for Your encouragement to persevere, that in times when we would rather give up, You encourage us to hang onto You and You will see us through.\u00a0\u00a0I hang onto You today.\u00a0\u00a0In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<div dir=\"ltr\"><\/div>\n<p><em>Copyright \u00a9 2021 Justin Lim.
