All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, &#8220;God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.&#8221;\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>6\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Humble yourselves, therefore, under God&#8217;s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>7\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<sup>8<\/sup>\u00a0<em>\u00a0Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>9\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>10\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>11\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 5-11:\u00a0 If there is any passage I would highly recommend memorizing from 1 Peter, it is these verses.\u00a0 Each of these verses is so clear, powerful and applicable.\u00a0 Which verse speaks to you the most in your current season?\u00a0 I encourage you to memorize it, and eventually to memorize all verses 5 to 11.\u00a0 Let these verses take root deeply in your heart.<\/p>\n<p><strong>1 Peter 5:12-14 (NIV)\u00a0<\/strong><br \/>\n<em><sup>12\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0With the help of Silas, whom I regard as a faithful brother, I have written to you briefly, encouraging you and testifying that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>13\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0She who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you her greetings, and so does my son Mark.\u00a0<\/em><br \/>\n<em><sup>14\u00a0<\/sup><\/em><em>\u00a0Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to all of you who are in Christ.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On verses 13-14:\u00a0 Notice the affection with which Peter refers to Silas and Mark, calling them his brother and son respectively.\u00a0 Also notice how Peter encourages his readers to greet one another with a kiss of love, which was the culturally acceptable and friendly form of greeting one another.\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0What can we learn from this?\u00a0 In the body of Christ, we are not just teammates or co-workers in God\u2019s kingdom; we are family.\u00a0 So let\u2019s treat each other that way.<\/p>\n<p>Who is Peter referring to when he writes in verse 13, \u201cShe who is in Babylon, chosen together with you, sends you her greetings\u201d (v13)?\u00a0 Some say it\u2019s Peter\u2019s wife.\u00a0 Another theory is that \u201cshe who is in Babylon\u201d refers to the church that Peter was leading in the city of Rome, where Peter is said to have remained during his final years on earth.\u00a0 The theory is that \u201cBabylon\u201d was a code word for Rome so as to protect the Christians in Rome and Peter himself from any additional persecution.<\/p>\n<p>This concludes our look at the book of 1 Peter.\u00a0 What were the most important lessons you learned from this book?<\/p>\n<p><em>Lord Jesus, thank You for being my Chief Shepherd, the One who cares for me, who suffered for me and who calls me to follow You.\u00a0 May my actions speak well of You and may I always treat the spiritual family you gave me with great love and affection.\u00a0 In Jesus\u2019 name, AMEN!<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Copyright \u00a9 2021 Justin Lim.
